Can the Amiga CD32 Connect to the internet? What software do you need to make it work.

The CD32 has a serial port that is merged with the keyboard port, so you can make (or buy) a cable splitter and connect to a serial port on another machine, and then run PPP over that, using Roadshow or AmiTCP, or any of the other IP stacks. Be aware though, that the stock CD32 only has 2MB of RAM, so it is very limited what you can actually do. And it will be very slow :)

Ok thanks for that information. Would it run faster if you connected an SX-32 expansion board to it?

The Plipbox should work providing you can afford one of those SX type expansion units to give you the parallel port (I think there's one on eBay atm for £1000).

But...Why? It's supposed to be a games console! Leave it be! Saying that, I've always wanted an 030 CD32 with a hard disk in a tower... I'll just contradict myself. These expansions are rediculously expensive though. Not sure the demand is there either.

Thanks again for that. Will a Mouse and Keyboard connect to a CD32?

Yes. An Amiga keyboard in the previously mentioned combined serial and keyboard port, and mouse in one of the joystick ports, just like on a regular Amiga.

Yes, the SX32 also comes with a faster CPU (68EC030@40MHz or full 68030@50MHz, and optionally also an 68882 FPU), and up to 64MB of RAM, so it is a huge boost over a plain CD32.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade 'Workbench 3.0 for CD32' into 'Classic Amiga OS4.1 Final Edition'? I know the SX32 PRO expansion accelerates a CD32 as well as turning it into a GUI enviroment. Maybe the SX32 Pro is the equivalent of a Blizzard PPC for this console. Now i'm getting very excited. If I can run OS4.1 Final Edition on a CD32, then I don't need to buy a new computer as I can use this modern software such as word processing, digital art creation and an an up to date internet application to do all of my work on this piece of magic.

Not possible. OS4 requires a BlizzardPPC or a CyberstormPPC accelerator, neither of which can be used with a CD32.

SX32 Pro is equivalent to for example Blizzard-1230 or ACA1230 card, nowhere near 040/060/PPC cards. I can confirm that CD32 with SX32 Pro runs OS3.9 just fine.

You would think if it runs OS3.9, it would run OS4.1.

No, one wouldn't think that, if they'd read any of the comments that came before this one or spent 30 seconds on google.  4.1 for Classics requires a PPC processor.  There are no PPC processor boards available for CD32.  Ergo, CD32 can't run 4.1.

Wow, me think fondpondforever has limitless time and money on his hands to start thinking about sourcing and modding CD1200 prototypes and reverse engineering rare SX32-Pro expansions into PPC accelerators! That would have been insane for DCE to attempt back in 1997/98 never mind by an eccentric (possibly millionaire) Amigan in 2016 who thinks AmigaOS 4.1FE has even a chance of running without a PPC processor!

I like your optimism but I can't help think you'd be happier messing around with a A-EON AmigaOne X5000 than rewiring a rare and valuable Amiga Classic museum pieces to get the same functionality. P.S. An internet enabled machine running AGA screenmodes isn't going to be much fun or very fast even if it has a 030 accelerator.

Is fondpodforever starting an Amiga museum? That's the only reason I can see that he's sourcing a classic Amiga collection of these ultra-rare items.

gotta agree, but my 040/25, egs spectrum 24/28 a3000d w 2mb chip and 16mb fast ram runs the internet at a tolerable pace, even downloading from aminet.

but this souped up CD32 i would love to see, especially in a 24kt gold tower case and keyboard.  i think we are all kinda intrigued right now.
