Was the A1200 case white or beige?
« on: April 12, 2016, 03:11:07 PM »
Hello, I see lots of A1200's on ebay and the forums, some are pure white, some are beige. I know that with time they can yellow. However the beige colored A1200's I see are not yellow, they are just beige. Then I saw that in the new case series they offered both beige and white.

So was wondering ... is it that both existed? or there was only white and with time this gets beige?

It was never white.
It was one of the off-white shades. Whiter than beige but it still had some creaminess in it so a little more like ivory.

Exactly. Pictures are difficult to go by due to lighting and camera/monitor calibration variances.

From what I can tell over the years, the Escom cases I've seen appear to have been newly manufactured, and the color is a tad whiter than the earlier C= cases. Nothing extreme, but side-by-side, you can tell the difference between the two easily.

Yes, the ESCOM/AT A1200s were brighter than the originals. Not sure if it was deliberate so it aligns to their red white and black colour scheme, or they didn't try too hard to colour-match the original dye.

Sort of an off-white, ivory, bone, light beige colour.

My last one was from Escom, it might be due to it...

Agreed.  Off-white or Ivory.  The A500 was a definite beige.  A brand new Commodore A1200 was also a beige, though notably whiter than a brand new A500.  Then the Escom A1200 was whiter, yet.  But none were perfect white.

To me, all these C= models I had were pretty white... But go figure, everyone has his own "white" indeed! ;)

A Hong Kong A600 I have is very white indeed; as white as any other white computer I have ever seen.  A UK made one I have isn't as white (plastic on the inside is not as white either). Whether plastic can go a bit yellow/off white without light contact  I'm not sure, but maybe it used to be as white as my other at one time. Amiga's were made in the Philippines and Singapore as well, so there's plenty of opportunity for different case plastics.

Check this out from the Gallery:

Note that the A1200 is as white as those A600's. Note the beige A500.

I thought Escom A1200's used cases manufactured by Commodore (old stock) with just new badges?

They're all yellowed somewhat, no offence intended. :)

Someone needs to hold up a pantone coated color swatch to the A600 and A1200 to get the real color. The industry users the Pantone Color Matching system to match colors on everything from print to toys.
