Amiga to HDTV

Looking for the best way to connect an Amiga to a Plasma HDTV.  I'm sure this has been asked 100's of times, but I figured I would ask again.

My thought was to use a device to convert Amiga RGB to Component.

I've seen some SCART to component converters.  I could pick up one of those along with an Amiga SCART cable.  Any thoughts on going that route?

This question comes up all the time.  You don't specify what model you're trying to connect, but my personal opinion is that an Indivision (either ECS or AGA) is going to give you the cleanest output, without any bulky external converter boxes or any of that cr**.  

If AGA, get Kipper2K's HDMI adapter board and HDMI audio cable, then you can plug it right in to the TV's HDMI input and get video and sound in one.  If ECS, you don't have an HDMI output option (I haven't tried if those VGA-to-HDMI converters work), but if your TV still has a VGA connector, it's also a pretty simple plug-in operation.


Not going to tell you what I think about plasma TV's though... blurry, low resolution, slow refresh rate, heavy-as-h*** to wallmount... don't make good computer monitors... ugh, good luck with that.

Get yourself an Indivision from http://amigakit.com/

Or else, get yourself a good upscaler like the XRGB Mini Framemeister, as the cheaper upscalers are totally rubbish.

Actually plasma screens have a way better colour reproduction, better blacks, better contrast, better moving pictures.

So far, the best Amiga "HD" picture I got so far is via emulation and my Eizo FG2421 monitor on 100/120 hz with a crt filter and black frame insertion that is, for the "SD" games.

3rd of the five pictures I posted.  Combines Amiga audio with HDMI video from the Indivision AGA.  Kipper2K makes 'em, or did.  He's pretty busy with the Vampire boards, you might want to ask him.

A shame that can not be reversed for stereo audio extraction from HDMI source.

I should have been more specific.  It's a pretty much stock OCS Amiga 500 that I want to connect.  The Plasma TV doesn't have a 15 pin VGA input.  It has HDMI, Component, and SVIDEO.

How well does something like that handle PAL?

If you already have an A520 and your TV has a composite input--it should if it has s-video--you may find that your TV's built-in scaler and deinterlacer are more than adequate for fun on the A500. The other options suggested will provide a better overall display experience, but don't spend money unless 1) you're not satisfied with your current experience or 2) you're sick like the rest of us and need to spend money on Amiga gear to survive.

I don't have an A520 to even try out so I'm out of luck there
