Trouble with Easynet
« on: January 06, 2016, 06:20:52 AM »
Hello there!

I've just received my new Easynet network card from amigakit.com. And unfortunately i have now run into some problems. :(

When i click the "online" button i get a message saying:

"AmiTCP/IP version 3 or later must be started first."

And then a error message saying "Unable to open bsdsocket.library"

So what is wrong here, and how do i fix it?
I am using a A1200 with Classic WB, full version.

Thanks!

Not so Easynet. I assume the product includes a TCP/IP stack?. The OS doesn't have one my default. The TCP/IP stack needs to be configured and active (bound to your network card) to get "on the line". Instructions enclosed?

I've never used EasyNet (although I've heard it's really hard to use... sorry), but did your disk include an installation script?  Did you run it, and did it complete successfully?
- Did you have any prior TCP/IP stacks installed before EasyNet (i.e., Miami, Genesis, AmiTCP, Roadshow)?
- Also, what version of Workbench?

Oldsmobile_Mike:

Yes it came with a installation script. And i installed everything carefully according to the printed documentation.

And well, when things started to go bad i tried to install Miami through the installer located in "Drawers/MyFiles" So maybe i should remove that installation first. But is that just a matter of deleting the directory that i installed it in? Or is there Miami related files located somewhere else?

I use the latest version of "Classic WB" (Scalos)

And just to make things worse! I just noticed that when you restart with the card plugged in it says "CardPatch failed returncode 10"

Are you trying to setup ethernet or wireless?

If you are setting up a network with a PCMCIA-card, maybe this will help you:

http://doctorq.info/guide/miami.html

I used this guide a few years ago I think, and it did work for me.

Huh.  Did the installation instructions tell you to do that?  AFAIK EasyNet is a complete TCP/IP solution, same as Miami, or Genesis, or Roadshow, etc., and wouldn't need to be installed along with anything else.  Trying to run multiple stacks simultaneously is definitely going to cause some issues.

I did a little googling and saw some comments about an "11 page instruction manual" for EasyNet.  Did you get this?  Looks like there's scans of some of the pages here:

http://shop.amigakit.com/images/netpcm003-page4.jpg
http://shop.amigakit.com/images/netpcm003-page5.jpg

Maybe helpful?

Personally I would dump EasyNet and try to have a go with either Roadshow or Miami.  All the various stacks have their pros & cons, Roadshow is far and above the fastest (as reported by everyone who was able to get it working), Miami is probably the easiest (because of it's GUI).  Just my .02 cents.

Another option here:

This may be more applicable to what you are trying to do.  :)

Sir_Lucas:

Ethernet.

AmigaOldskooler:

Thanks! Looks really nice! I might give that a try instead.

No the instructions didn't tell me so. I tried to install Miami because of the problems i already had with Easynet. That, without knowing it might cause even more trouble. I have however taken Miami away now.

Yes, those pics are from the manual that i have here.

Ok, never heard of roadshow. And to be honest, i actually only know about Miami and this one. But i would probably go for one with a GUI. Mostly because i am a complete newbie when it comes to networking on Amiga. And i will also check out that video to see if that might help clear things up

So... the best idea here is maybe to delete both Miami and Easynet and start over from scratch. But i am still afraid that doesn't answer the question on what to do with the "CardPatch failed returncode 10" message...

I also would like to know where you usually install your TCP/IP stack. Is it suppose to go in the "Programs" folder? Because that is where i put it.

Are you running any of the card reset patches currently?

The Amiga doesn't have a "Programs" drawer. Well, maybe it does with ClassicWB, but normally it doesn't. Normal location is SYS:Internet, although some components may go in WBStartup,  some in C:, etc. Or with Roadshow, it puts folders all over the place. Which was a complaint that came up in another thread a while back. ;)

AmiTCP/IP 3 Is part of the Easynet Program but setting up Easynet is far from easy as I to have been in the exact same situation you are in, in the end I ended up using genesis which comes with AmigaOS 3.9 and it is the most easy TCP/IP Stack I have used and it works great.

Odd, It takes me like 5 minutes to setup Easynet everytime I install it! :) Especially on OS3.9. OS3.5 is a little harder but works great - even with wireless! :)
