eBay, how long should one wait for payment
« on: January 05, 2016, 03:41:00 AM »
So my A4000 sold today on eBay however it's been 8hrs and not a word from the buyer plus he had 0 feedback. Should I start to worry that he is going to not pay?

In the future I recommend stating in your postings when payment is expected. It is possible that the bidder isn't near a computer if they set an automatic bid. I'd give them a day and send them an invoice with a note that payment was expected at the end of the auction. You have the option if I remember of offering it to the next highest bidder if the highest bidder does not pay. I could be wrong on that as I haven't had to do that.

Yes, the option is there to give it to the next highest bidder so I'll wait till tomorrow evening I guess.

If you sign up for the "automatically open a dispute if winning bidder doesn't pay" function, they give you preset periods in the dropdown: 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, etc.  So I think the polite thing to do would be to wait 2 days.  I know, it's frustrating as a seller, though.  :(

Yeah 2 days is fair. Shoot, I am dealing with a buyer that put a paypal dispute on an CD MK III I sold and shipped to Germany over the holiday. It was stuck in customs and on day 12 he disputed it for non receipt! Guess what paypal did to me?! Yup and still waiting for the money and my account to be unlocked even after item shows its cleared customs and fine.

I just re-read your post and saw the part about "0 feedback".  Probably means you're screwed, but you never know.  Might get lucky.  ;)  You'll still have to follow the formal process though, ebay rules and all that.  Buried deep in the options is a way to set it to disallow sellers from bidding if they don't have any feedback.  There's also an option to disallow them from bidding if they don't have a Paypal address.  I had to google how to set these for my account, but was well worth the time to have to deal with fewer scammers.  Might want to look into it.  Good luck!  :)

I sold things to people with 0 feedback and had no issues. I sold stuff to person with 250+ 100% positive feedback and seller was a as...le. Just saying. Don't forget that seller CAN'T give negative feedback on ebay.

2 Days.  If it's a PayPal payment you have no need to worry.  If they try to settle outside of eBay you know why they are 0 Feedback.  Don't deal outside of the ebay email messaging system.

With ebay and another sale there is always something to worry. Ebay seller protection is NOTHING and it only applies to tracked packages that were not delivered, stolen etc. IF buyer files "not as described item" (even if you sold something "as is - no returns") you HAVE TO pay money back and than you hope that he did not drop your Amiga from first floor. If you will not pay, ebay/paypal will TAKE your money back and you will have negative paypal balance. Ebay will side in 99% cases with buyer. There is basically no way to prove that buyer is wrong.

You pay ebay fees as seller, you think you are protected? No, you are not.

I'm not trying to make you feel bad, it is reality I faced :(

well, Ive sold a few things on eBay in the past and usually within the first few hrs payment has been received. Ive got pictures of the box and how it was wrapped plus of course the pictures I posted in the auction of the actual Amiga.

Ill just wait till the end of the day today before I really start to get annoyed.

ebay suggests 2 days,If the guy doesnt contact you etc,i would file a non paying bidder.

i just had a problem with a guy from australia that took about 8days to pay,but with the holidays and such i was patient, he did finally pay.

One of the things that may drive me away from that site as a Seller.

Update: Payment did finally come through last night. Paypal has changed how payments are handled since the last time I sold something on ebay. They put a hold on the payment till the buyer receives the item, not sure how I feel about that.
