Ordered a Kipper2k A508IDE
« on: December 18, 2015, 07:39:10 PM »
Just got the email...ordered a A508IDE, 8mb ram and the CPU standoff board.  Man..this is exciting.  Now I dont need to buy any old over-priced hard drive setup like AdIDE/A590/etc.  :-)

Kippers card is a really nice solution for a fair price, I love it in my machine =)
Just notice that you need at least 2.x ROM's to be able to boot on the CF-card (using 3.1 myself in the machine).

I have 2.x in my A500.  Just ordered Indivision ECS also..now I can finally use a flicker fixer.
I was searching high and low fixing to make some ridiculous offer on some A500 HD solutions and old flicker fixer.  Glad I didnt have to.  :-)

Edit:  THANKS AMIGAKIT!  :-)

got a question for you..

I have WB as .ADF files and will want it on a bootable CF.   I'm assuming the CF gets formatted to an Amiga FS format, correct?  If so, I'll need to get my .ADF's to a 3.5" floppy.  Did you solder the wires directly to the mobo?

I was lazy and prepared a CF via WinUAE which was rather convenient when I prepped it with WHDLoad titles etc.
I created 2 partitions on the card, one for the plain system and then a bigger one for the games/demos using pfs3.

Yes I soldered the connector that came with the card, which you just attached the cable to later when you install it. Be careful to count the correct numbers of holes you should place it in :) I missed one hole first and nothing worked.

So one partition is strictly WB and then the other is also a self-bootable partition with WHDLoad?  If I dont use pfs3, then I'm limited in partition size, I'm assuming...now to read up on pfs3.

You will love the Indivision!  Without flicker, an Amiga feels instantly modern with lots of display options thru a LCD.

I don't run a CF yet, but, I believe you can patition it any way you want, just like a mechanical HD.  I usually try to have more than 1 small boot partition 50 to 100 MB in size.  This allows a backup of your system files, experimenting with other versions or options, etc.  Also, I'm a little OC about installation scripts (I want it installed "My Waaaay"  ;) ).  If an installation script can't find a partition named "Work:", it will ask how you want the software installed rather than assume.

Food for thought.

You can install 3.1 on your CF as a normal HD.
