Radeon 9000 256 MB PCI graphic card cheaper than Blizzard
« on: December 03, 2015, 04:59:17 PM »
Hello there, how come a Radeon 9000 256 MB PCI graphic card for an AmigaOne X1000 is so much cheaper than Blizzard for classic Amigas. For example a Radeon 9000 256 MB PCI graphic card for new Amigas cost about £40 whereas Blizzard for classic Amiga's goes for £100's on eBay and Amibay. Thanks.

More Radeon 9000's made than the Blizzard? Is that what you mean.

@fondpondforever

yes. substantially more radeon 9000 cards were manufactured. so the blizzard is much rarer, and therefore, worth more.

Oh right, I see. I read that the Radeon 9000 Cards were made for the AmigaOne X1000 Market but were compatible with PC's. Is that true or were they mainly aimed at the PC Market. Thanks.

@fondpondforever

those radeon 9000 PCI cards are fairly ancient, and no, they weren't aimed at the amiga market whatsoever. they came out nearly a decade before the X1K. :)

besides, X1K users can use radeon HD 7000-series cards, R7s, R9s, etc.

The last video cards made for the Amiga were Village Tronic's Picasso IV and Phase 5's Blizzardvision PPC and Cybervision PPC.

Everything since has been a standard PCI card plugged into systems equipped with either a Mediator, G-REX or Prometheus PCI busboard.

On the NG side it has either been a standard AGP, PCI or PCIe card.

So back to the original question, I can clearly see why Radeon PCI Graphic Cards are much cheaper than Blizzard's.

But what I can't clearly see is how or why you needed to ask this?
You obviously have an internet connected computing device with a web browser; A simple Google search would have given you the whole history of the Radeon 9000 series of graphics processors and cards.

PCI Radeon cards from that generation were made for Macs , so I guess
that was what poster meant.They could do 66 Mhz PCI on earlier Macs and
went to AGP later.Those cards have different BIOS.

If I had done a bit more research into the Radeon Graphics Cards then I would have known that they were made for Macs and PC's. What I thought was there are specialist graphic cards made for the AmigaOne X1000 and other Amiga Computers in the same generation. So what I've learnt is that I guess there aren't any specialist Amiga Graphic Cards made for X1000 otherwise they would cost alot more than the £40 Radeon 9000 one as there would be a smaller production line.
