AmigaOne X5000 Cheaper than X1000?
« on: November 23, 2015, 05:23:52 PM »
Is the AmigaOne X5000 going to be cheaper to buy than the AmigaOne X1000 when it was released? If so, does anyone know why this is? Thanks.

@fondpondforever

yes. the X5000 should be less expensive than the X1000. as to why, only A-EON can say for certain, but certainly the cost of the P5020 is substantially less than the PA6T, so that's at least one item contributing to the savings.

I would guess because CPU's don't cost as much.

I hope they are cheaper.  That way there will be more Amiga OS 4.x users.  The more the merrier :-)

I've already got an X1000 with which I am very happy, so I won't be getting an X5000 myself, but it's good to know that it will be easier for others to join in.

It's not a secret. The price including AmigaOS 4.1 is £1699 including 20% UK VAT.

As someone who owns an X1000 and is very happy with it, I'd say the cost of an X5000 is very reasonable. I'd definitely have bought one if I didn't already own my current Amiga.

The main difference is that the X1000 was sold at a loss due to a much increased price of the CPU. The X5000 will be cheaper to make (and even cheaper still as they will make 500 of these). But the end user won't notice that much difference as A-Eon strives to make a tiny profit this time.

I think over £400 cheaper for a full system is somewhat noticeable.  It's still very expensive but closer to what CSPPC boards changing hands for these days.

What should be "noticeable" is the multi (or at least dual) core support coming with OS4.2.

is it? It would be only feelable if loads would be balanced automatically, that is not easy to implement.

there was this from february:

it sounds like they are far off even starting with the complicated parts

Something that just sprang to mind...why are there only going to be 500 of these computers made? That's extremely limited. There must be thousands of Amiga Users and Gamers let alone billions of human beings on this planet lol. Just seems crazy. :eek:

Yeah, but since some people thought it would be under 1000€ ...
