Why would you assume that site holds "legal" distributions?

Why would you assume it doesn't?

well, for starters, pkivolowitz is the founder of ASDG -- so i suspect he'd know if he had released his software for public distribution or not.

@pkivolowitz

can you help clarify if adpro was released to the public or not? since we don't allow links to copyrighted material without distribution permission, this is an issue for the site staff now. you're also always welcome to send me a PM if you see this kind of thing in the future.

@thread

until this is clarified, i am removing the links to the TOSEC ADFs.

I guess the question (in my situation anyway) would be if the update from 2.5.0 to 2.5.1 was, when released, a free update for legal owners of 2.5.0?  If it was then I believe there would be nothing illegal for me to update my purchased with serial copy of 2.5.0 to 2.5.1

If an owner of a copyrighted work believes his work is being illegally distributed by a huge organisation such as archive.org then all it takes is one email to them to have it removed as is their legal right.

If it doesn't get removed then it's pay day for them in court. Wouldn't even need a lawyer.

In this time and age I don't quite see why you would want to use AdPro, there are so many other options that are better, ImageFx, SView and others.

I love Imagefx. I have bought versions 2 through 4.5. Love that software.  It is my goto.  However I also like to use PARpro which is a batch processing program that communicates between my Personal animation recorder and Adpro to batch process the images and fields in my PAR  animations.

There was a version distributed as a cover disk in Europe. Other than that no version has ever been "legally" downloadable as far as I can recall.

Hey, I sold that company - do what you want. Just don't call it legal when likely it is not.

For those here who have a problem with me expressing this personal opinion... kiss my ass.

I don't see why being so hostile towards the author of 68k program
that is being pirated (archive.org is not legal as far as I know unless
they have written permission of author for every download they offer
but it still serves purpose of preserving all old Amiga software).

There was a scandal lately with Morphos code being used without
permission of author and it blew to sky and back.

Why insult and discriminate authors of old 68k programs when their whole
commercial creations are publicly pirated while being expected to uphold
sanctity of NG software?

Some of us still have old Amigas working (and without RTG).

Did I miss something here?  Are we even reading the same thread?  Seems to me OP posted a very clear and legitimate question:  He's the owner of a boxed and fully licensed copy of 2.5.  He wanted to know if 2.5.1 was released as a free update that he would then be entitled to download, as is the case of much commercial software today.

All the author had to do was say "Yes, 2.5.1 was released as a free update to licensed owners of 2.5", or "No, 2.5.1 was never released as an update and is still copyrighted commercial software".  That's it.  Either one of those two responses would've sufficed, and he probably would've gotten a big thanks all around.  But then a bunch of people came along and got all OT, and then to make matters worse the author comes along and rather than provide any clarification, basically tells everyone to kiss his ass.

There is not enough facepalms in the world for the absurdity of these forums, some days.  :(

Yes I agree , person asking the question and author never really had
an argument about this but author was insulted so he probably didn't
feel the need to answer.
