SampleZ is a good one:

Also SoundBox will save a few formats:

http://aminet.net/package/mus/misc/SoundBoxKey

There's a couple more but I can't remember atm...

You changed your original post.  I was going to suggest AudioMaster too, but I don't think it can import 16-bit/AD516 samples (like you were asking about at first?).  Barring that, I have some vague recollections of programs called something like AIFF and SOX, if those ring any bells?  Pretty bare command-line conversion utilities was mostly what I used back in the day, but it's been 20 years...  ;)

Edit:  Try these:  http://aminet.net/search?query=sox

All great suggestions, I will try them all thanks!

@oldsmobile_mike - I did change the post when I realized that I first just get peoples opinion on a good solid sample editor first.  I thought I was muddying up the waters with my specific need involving the AD516.

Samplitude Opus was one of the ones I couldn't remember. CU Amiga gave away a limited version on one of their cover cd's. I have a couple of versions on my hard drive (sorry, I can't get to my Amiga this week to check the others).

Maybe SoundFX (or SFX): http://aminet.net/package/mus/edit/sfx-bin_60m

As a registered user from bitd, I recommend this one although it's a bit technical and it's UI may take a bit to get used to, but it is one of the best there is. Soundprobe was good too, I can't recall how many formats it opened and the current status of availability, But if Stefan Kost is still supporting SoundFX I would give him a shout, SoundFX would be a great candidate to have an OS4 native version of.
