Hello everybody, I am looking for an item that somebody may own and want to get rid of. I am looking for a fully working, 13" Sears TV/Monitor from the late 80's. It had Composite and funny 8 pin looking RGB connector ( EIAJ-E8M ) on the back. This monitor was targeted to be used on the Commodore 128 back in the late 1980's. Here is the description of TV: Sears Color TV 13" LXI Series Model 564-40843652. If anybody has this monitor, please contact me ASAP, I would absolutely like to buy it from you. Thanks again. I attached pictures of what it looks like. Thanks.

I live in Florida, zip code 33548. Thanks.

Any particular reason you're looking for this exact display? A 1084 from the same period should provide similar results, minus the TV part (which won't work these days without a digital to analog converter due to the retirement of NTSC broadcasts).

I must admit I love the retro channel LEDs. :)  You could hook up a RGB device, a composite device, and an RF device (like an Atari 2600, Intellivision, or Colecovision) which are RF only outputs.

This purchase is strictly nostalgic.  This is the exact monitor I had back in 1987 when I bought my Commodore 128.  It took me years to find one on Ebay and I bought it, unfortunately it got destroyed in the mail.  so, here am I am looking for another one.  By the way, I never really liked the way the Vic-20 or Commodore 64 looked on the 1080 or 1084.  I always found the picture to be really fuzzy.

I have a JCPenney from the 80's with the same inputs that I used for computer club meetings.

Ah, the nostalgia value - say no more. Good luck with the search, and if I happen to come across one I'll let you know!

Cant help with the monitor but....
In case you need connector info, the oddball 8 pin rectangular one is a E8M EIAJ connector. sears actually sold a sr-2000 monitor back in the day with the c128 that used them. i had one,but its sadly died. panasonic and amdek also used them way back.

this place used to sell them: http://www.markertek.com/product/e8m/eiaj-rec-8-pin-male-connector

there are a few commodore stores that sell the cables i think like:
http://www.oldsoftware.com/cables.html

look near the bottom of the listing for sears, amdek, panasonic cable ;)  $7

good luck on the tv search.. sady people never seem to pack crt's well for shipping.

I have two of the 13-inch Sears LXI's - one silver and black and the other being off-white.  In addition, I have the 20-inch, black Sears LXI cousin.  All of them work very well with the C128's digital RGB, and the composite is nice, too, for the C64 side of the C128.  The 20-inch Sears LXI also has a comb filter which aides in separating the chroma and luma signals of the composite signal (no separate chroma and luma inputs on the LXI's).

A few months ago our club treasurer gave his 13-inch, whitish LXI to another club member for use on his Commodores.

Truly,

Hello, thanks RobertB for replying to my post.  Yes, I am definitely interested in the 13" black/silver model like I have pictured in this thread.  If you are willing to sell it, and it fully works with a good picture, please private message me with the price and the shipping cost to Florida ( zip 33548).  Thanks again.  I'll check this forum on occasion to see when you answer back.

I see some vintage monitors have the same funny looking 8 pin connector on the back of the monitor but it says "VTR" rather than "RGB".  Can this port also be used as an RGB port for older computers such as the C-128?

I owned that exact same TV for years. Even had the tape mark at the top. Eventually, the plastic holding the RG59 connector cracked, and I had to strap the coax to it with zip ties. And it had this odd feature where it wouldn't tune all basic channels after being disconnected from mains unless I did a little dance with the power & catv buttons. Ah memories.

I remember that TV set!  Coincidentally, while not the same model, had a 13" Sears LXI color TV that I used with my A1000 back in '87. Already had the TV as an expensive and cherished gift from my parents (round VHF/UHF dials), but had to purchase an RF modulator from Radio Shack for $30 in order to use it with the Amiga. Loved that setup!

Yep, I bought two of those cables a weeks ago.  I wouldn't be surprised it it's the rarest damn cable in existence.  I have never seen one on Ebay and probably never will.  Glad I got hold of a couple.
