2 questions and an issue?
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:09:59 PM »
Hi all, Question 1. Does AmigaMail allow attachments, all I saw was the HTML script.
Question 2.  What is the most stable browser for the Amiga, I am running Aweb lite and it
always crashes my system when trying to load most non Amiga sites.

Issue, When I try to load IBrowse I get this error message "Can't create CL_URL Script".

Thanks, Any help will be appreciated.

Brad

All Amiga browsers suck for "modern" web viewing, but Ibrowse is probably the best you're going to get*.  I've never heard of that error, maybe try reinstalling it or running something like Enforcer, to see what's kicking off to cause that message?

*disclaimer - unless you have a crazy fast classic system, then you can try NetSurf.  ;)

Two opinions, no questions, no answers:
1) IBrowse is the most "stable" browser on a stable Amiga system
2) If you want a modern browser, get a modern computer

Or run OWB on an NG system.

BTW - How well does that work on AOS4.1 for Classics?

AmigaMail is pretty basic and I don't think it is updated anymore. SimpleMail is easy to use and has a lot of features (like good attachment support) for an Amiga e-mail program.

AWeb APL Lite 3.5.09 mc68020 version has good stability on my Amiga but I will get an occasional crash with modern complex pages. Most problems with AWeb were with a particular version or due to lack of FPU. Without an FPU, either disable the plugins or download and install the slower 68000 version (on Aminet).

IBrowse has good stability but can crash on complex pages as well. There also seems to be a bug with the caching system but it usually takes a long time to corrupt the cache. Old or buggy MUI libraries cause problems for some users. I don't know what your error is (missing file, missing assign, corruption, etc.?). SnoopDOS might be able to tell you if something is missing.

What about Yam for email?  I remember using it back in the day, isn't it even open-source now and still being updated?

I believe YAM is still slowly being developed. My understanding is that YAM is powerful but doesn't have as many modern features and isn't as easy to use for beginners as SimpleMail. Opinions vary though.

Especially if you disable javascript in it. Its javascript engine is responsible the most of the crash on it. If I use IBrowse I have js disabled, but only enable it from its quick settings if needed, or have js enabled for certain sites from its url settings.
