More Hard Drive problem
«

I seem to have dropped my IBM 2.5inch hard drive and it has been slightly damaged - yes silly me.
When I format the drive it gets to 48% and doesn't get any further. I was wondering if there are any tools that will scan the surface of the drive and mark/record all the bad sectors so the Amiga will just ignore these parts?
I have tried AmiNET and there are only a couple of programs that deal with Hard Drives but don't do the hiding part.
Any thoughts? I have heard of Quarterdeck tools but don't know what it does.

I had a drive like that once - all I could do was partition it up, leaving a blank space in the center where the damage was... Worked well for years after that before I moved up to a larger drive...

Sounds like a plan.
I just need a program that can read the disk to find out where the disk starts and stops being faulty. Failing that I will just have to do it manually by doing small partitions to see where the bad part is.
Thanks for the help.

I remember a small prog called MyFormat that was supposed to be able to mark bad blocks while formatting and the drive wouldn't use those blocks.
That might just be wishfull thinking though. It might be on aminet somewhere.

@r0nn13:
I would advice you to connect the drive to a PC, run the
Drive Fitness Test
software for IBM/Hitachi disks and use it to low-level format the drive by selecting the "Erase Disk" option.

Try the SCSI tester on Aminet.
