It seems to be a rebadged phone of this: http://www.gizchina.com/2014/12/09/64bit-lte-orgtec-waphone-officially-announced-just-145/

The specs are not bad at all..and the price is really good.  Despite what some are thinking.

That the real issue is what (if any) the reaction will be from C=Holdings B.V., who registered the trademark prior and not so much the product itself.

Ah understood.  Well that all remains to be seen.  If there were issues with using the C= name, logo etc. would they have come out
by now??  Who knows.  Until thses things are shipped and in the hands of users/ reviewers.

We already have facts in evidence that there are issues with using the name.

with regard to the C64c case project

Initially, they too said they would continue to invest in product instead of lawyers (see 1st post same thread).

To date I have seen no official announcement of an official Commodore licensee from C=Holdings B.V. Of course they've been busy with 3 concurrent lawsuits.

I take it you've never had the pleasure (cough) to use a Mediatek equipped phone.  :)

They are notoriously poor performers, notoriously buggy and poor on battery life, and rarely receive the Android updates that were promised.  GPS is poor at best.

I can tell you all of this is true about Mediatek chips - I've got a Mediatek MT6592 equipped phone that I got stuck with via work sitting a foot away from me, and it's a complete dog performance wise.  Had it for about a year now (Alcatel Idol X+, comparable or better specs than the C= phone), and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It was free with an under $20 a month contract.

I don't begrudge anyone spending their hard earned money on a phone with a $100+ logo screened on it - whatever floats your boat.  Though it does annoy me when people pay $300+ for a sub par phone that will end up getting no support, lol.

You can get a OnePlus for the price of the C= phone, c'mon.

I have not used a phone or anything with that processor in it.  Was this Octa-core processor the same one that gave you issues?
Not all electronics are perfect out of the gate..Even the best of companies have initial problems with their products, just sayin.

And reliability of use is off topic from org post.  Like I stated based on the listed specs vs price and being unlocked $300 is not bad, and you all know it.#truth.  Whether the phone actually works, well
that remains to be seen and is unknown at this point.

The phone you had was free? ..there is this saying.."you get what you pay for".  Perhaps this new PET will work as described if it in fact ships.  I'll let ya know :).

*sigh*  I don't know why anyone who knows anything about phones would buy anything but a Nexus.  I paid $549 for mine.  Unlocked, 64GB of memory, QHD screen, Battery that lasts 2+ days under normal use, fastest access to all updates, no contract / I can take it to any carrier, etc.  Yes, it was expensive.  Yes, it was worth every penny, to me, and I would not trade it for anything in the world.  But then, some people only care about "cheap".

Same Octocore CPU line, same one people have all sorts of issues with.

It was "free" to me because I work for the telco as a subcontractor.  List price was $549.  I wouldn't pay $49 for it.

It's your money.  Fact is, you can buy a far better phone for the money, starting with the Moto X at $299, which is a great phone.  Are folks looking for a new phone or just a weak-kneed throwback homage to a long dead computer brand?  If the latter, wouldn't it just be easier to get $5 Commodore logo sticker printed up and put it on a decent phone?

But hey, if you want to spend $300+ for a silk screened emerging market handset with buggy components in it, Godspeed.  There *are" GPS, battery and performance issues with Mediatek chips.  Known issues I can tell you I have experienced myself.  Known issues that there is 1,000 threads on the 'net about.  Which is why you rarely see them in anything but the Chinese budget phones.

The dudes in Starbucks won't know what the chickenlips logo is anyways :)
I've seen Apple Scenesters, but the Chickenlips scenester idea makes me giggle out loud :)   "WOW, is that a...  COMMODORE PHONE????  OOOH"

Hysterical.

Well...I think its a bit of both nostalgia and maybe new phone.  Is there a chance in heck that the processor issues were sorted? Is there a chance it was software causing das issues?  I don't know I will have look the processor up and read about it.

Not too sure I've been to SB a few times its an older crowd at times and I have seen a chicken lips T-shirt once on a blue moon.  And you would be surprised at who knows who or whatCommodore is or once was.

Kudos to anyone trying something legit to keep it going.  Where is Atari these days?
