SCSI upgrade/connection

If I wanted to upgrade upgrade an A2000 with an SCSI drive controller, which drive adapter would make more sense, SCSI-1>IDE or SCSI-1>
U320/160?

Because I'm not interested in people's interest in pancakes.
Its just that using later SCSI drives seems less expensive than the $100 IDE adapter I have been considering.
With an '020 processor card I can't really considering the simpler IDE solutions.

Well, if you're just looking for opinions, I'd go with SCSI.  Think the majority of folks use IDE solutions because the drives are cheap.  But meh.  I just don't like 'em.  To each their own.  ;)

What criteria are you considering? Cost? I have yet to make the investment in a SCSI to IDE adapter myself, but I think that's probably the way to go. SCSI3 drives are getting on in age now and they're loud, power hungry, and hot. But they're fairly cheap and I think there is a certain level of pride in being a SCSI user :)

An IDE or SATA adapter opens the door to easily-swappable CF cards. Downside is price, and you need one for every device, whereas with a SCSI adapter you can convert your whole chain and use multiple devices hanging off the one adapter.

Back to the question, both an IDE and an SCSI3 drive will saturate the SCSI-2 bus, but the is a conversion "hit" going from SCSI to IDE that cuts the transfer rate.

I'd forgotten about that option! He's out of stock at the moment, but I think I'll be ordering one or two of those when he's resupplied.

Given the age of the SCSI controller itself I imagine the performance hit wouldn't be that noticeable - the whole bus is already comparatively slow :)
