WTB - A500 plus or 2MB Mega Chip
« on: April 19, 2015, 09:22:37 AM »
So I wont go into my painful experience I'm going through on Ebay, but I've been forced to look at other options.

If anyone has an A500 Plus, can be just the motherboard as long as it's working or a 2MB chip RAM mega chip or something similar I'd be interested :-)

I wish you luck in finding either one... I think they may be difficult to find these days... unless you're willing to pay the big bucks I suppose.

[strike]The MegaChip kit is great in rev6 mobo but you still have to do the 1MB mod and add 512KB from the trap door module and the MegaChip to get 2MB (Ooops, I should have clarified, for the NON + model). That, of course leaves you with no fast ram unless you have an A590 or a trap door board with more than 512KB of memory... but still worth doing (NON+ Model). I'm not sure if, the 2MB mod (if even needed - thx OM for clarifying) on A500+ leaves you with no fast memory. But, you might still be able to add a trapdoor board to get fast memory. Really don't know about the + model - never had one.[/strike] Arrrggg! Never mind - not relevant to Lurch's question... Sorry Lurch! :)

Too bad AmigaKit can't get any more of the MiniMega kits. Supplier thing I suppose. You try try to PM them as sometimes they have a few "spares" lying around. https://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=915

Sorry guys, we had a large batch a few years ago and sold out eventually.  We are looking for another source, so if anyone has a supply for us, please get in contact.

Should have bought the one that was listed recently but missed out. I had purchased an Amiga 500 plus through Ebay and thought all was well but it has turned to a nightmare :-/

My 500 plus is having some strange issues, has been fine for years. First thing to remove when I got it way back then was the battery.

So I'm using my rev 6 board as a backup, I don't mind having no fast RAM as I have an ACA500 attached. Wasn't aware I had to do any modding to the board, from what I've seen and read should just need the mega chip?

I have heard that Jens is making something that will be similar to the mega chip, seems to be the only guy making good on his promises so hopefully :-) :-)

You don't need to do any chip ram mod to the Plus.  The Rev. 8A motherboard comes with the 2MB Agnus, with 1MB chip on the motherboard and 1MB can be added through the trapdoor.

The only exception that I'm aware of is C= sold a few Plus's as "regular A500" models one Christmas, due to inventory issues.  They'd stick a 1.3 ROM in there (sometimes also added for compatibility) and only half the RAM.  Sometimes they'd also swap back to a standard Denise.  So you might wind up with a "non Plus" model based on the case, but with an 8A board, and the ECS chipset, only with a 1.3 ROM...  blah blah, Commodore was funny. Mix-n-match!  ;)

Yep, the A500 plus doesn't need a chip mod. That's the advantage of the plus. Anyway if I can't find another 500 plus board the other option is to get a mega chip and use it on my rev6 which will give me the 2MB chip.

My nightmare on trademe is involving a seller who had his account linked to the wrong paypal account somehow.
So I had to try and get a refund through Paypal, I managed to get most of it back apart from the global shipping part as Paypal has stated below and they will not refund the shipping:

Dear XXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting PayPal with your concern.

Unfortunately, PayPal was not able to resolve the dispute between the two parties due to the item purchased being virtual or intangible. Shipping costs are considered an intangible item, and as your payment was entirely for shipping costs, we are unable to offer a resolution to your complaint. As a result, PayPal has taken no action on either account at this time. However, the seller's account has been noted for future reference. Thank you for your cooperation with our investigation.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,
Nur Farhana

However this isn't the worse part the seller is now not responding to any emails/contact through Ebay. Both Ebay and Paypal don't appear to care, and the seller appears to be purchasing items still.

So I get to logon to Ebay and look at the pictures of what could have been, and to think I'm out of pocket for the experience due to the seller being at fault.

Hey Lurch,

I have a very nice A500+ in Perth Western Australia that I don't use any more and could sell you.

If you're interested then shoot me a PM.

Cheers mate.
