Mig 29 fighter planes on auction
« on: February 20, 2004, 10:07:13 PM »
Hi,

Ever wondered what to do with that 3.5 million dollars you have under your bed?
How about buying a Mig 29, only used for 110 hours since new, sounds cheap doesnt it? Then buy two for only $7 mill.

1st Mig
Second Mig

A while ago I saw the Russian "Space Shuttle" for sale on e-bay. Basically, a copy of the NASA model. It was however, completely successfull in a single un-manned testo flight.

Only 110 hours on the clock!! Not bad, but those engines will run on anything that burns (and the Russians take advantage of that feature), They will probably need a total strip down after another 100 hours ;-) and parts are not cheap... Also the Radar and avionic use Valve technology, which is not exactly reliable or common.

bah... go on, put me down for a couple :-D

That reminded me of an old joke.

Have you heard about the latest 16-valve Skoda?

It's got 8 in the engine and 8 in the radio.

Dhoo...Sorry,

Russian fighter planes? They have been selling from iwantoneofthose.com since 2000! Its tempting, but I'd rather spend 3.5 million on the redevelopment project of Trollesund ;)

The advert says the seller will deliver them.
I'd like to see my neighbor's reaction with one of those on the doorstep.

How do you send one of these? UPS? :-)

Actually the one they were auctioning off had never been to space, Buran has been used as the name of all the Russian Space Shuttles, technically only the one which flew in Nov 88 is called Buran.  I took a picture of the one in Gorky Park,  and I am sure several of the Aussies on the board have seen the one that was displayed at Sydney for the Olympics.  Most dont consider the flight terribly successful, the poor heat shield design, caused a burn through into the aircraft, it wasnt a fatal flaw because it was unmanned, but in all likelyhood any crew would have died  in the crew cabin.
