Edgar M. Vigdal has sadly passed away
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:25:02 PM »
Author of the fantastic 'Deluxe Galaga' on the Amiga.
Incase newer Amigan's may have missed these games, I'll include the links here (both ECS and AGA versions).

Quote from his website, EMV Software:

"Some  very sad and very serious news for everyone following the development  of Warblade Mk II and Deluxe Galaga Reborn. Unfortunately Edgar Vigdal  passed away on the evening of the 1st April 2015 of cancer. I believe  the death of his father and the toll that brought on him along with his  lifelong illnesses had worn him down. We are all shocked and saddened by  this news and my deepest warmest thoughts are with his family and  friends. I will miss Edgar very much, he has been a big part of my life  for many many years now through our long chats and late nights on Skype.
RIP my great friend. Keep on coding...

God's Speed, Edgar.  Your work was an enrichment of my youth, one of many shining points of my Amiga obsession, and truly inspiring.  I will be playing DG this weekend, for certain.

I rarely feel compelled to input to forum discussions but the passing of Edgar is truly a shame.  I have enjoyed his software for the last twenty years at least and I am sure that I will for another twenty too.

What a great legacy he has left us in what was surely the greatest shareware game of all time in Deluxe Galaga.

PS Warblade is good too on the Mac!

So sad to hear this news, Deluxe Galaga (AGA) & the later Warblade have brought an immense amount of gaming joy over the years for which I am very grateful indeed, they were a textbook example of how to take a classic and revamp it while retaining the essence of what made the original so good in the first place. Deluxe Galaga and Master Blaster were two Amiga games that still were able to command a gathering in the mid-late 90s in our family. May God rest your soul and give you peace Edgar.

Delxe Galaga was great. I played it over and over so many times that I got fed up but it is still Amiga Classic.

I had a conversation with him many years ago about making sprites on warblade.
He was nice and polite man.

I spent hundreds of hours on galaga with my wife, we still play till today and the years to come.

I think it's worth mentioning also that Deluxe Pacman was truly the best Pacman clone around.  Seriously good there.  I remember my Dad getting me out of bed in the middle of the night when I was about 5 to show me Deluxe Pacman when he got his first (second hand) A1000 and put that on.  We had moved up from a C64 and boy that was cool.

Styx on iOS is very addictive too!
