A4000 motherboard, CSPPC card...: what's it worth?
« on: April 07, 2015, 05:16:33 PM »
ok, folks. i need a little help here. sometime ago our fellow amiga.org member, Raziel^, decided he wanted to try and sell his remaining 68K kit, so i agreed to clean it up for him, list it, and ship from the USA since many of the buyers here are stateside. the only thing is... we're not sure what a fair valuation on all of this is. he wants to sell it as a bundle. all of this is originally from germany, so most documentation will either be in german and/or english. here's what he has:

* Hardware
-> Amiga 4000D motherboard, Rev B; 2MB Chip RAM on-board
-> RBM Zorro III expansion board
-> Amiga 3.5" floppy disk drive mounted in 5.25" drive bay
-> Plextor CD-ROM drive, model PX-40TSUWi
-> IOBlix board
-> X-Surf 3cc board
-> CompServ Scan Doubler, v1.4
-> M&D Monitor Switch, Rev 3
-> Buddha Flash board, Phoenix Edition Z2
-> FORTRON/SOURCE PSU, model FS-250S40G
-> CyberVisionPPC 8MB VRAM
-> CyberStormPPC accelerator; 50MHz 68040; non-working 200MHz PowerPC 604e

* Software
-> DiskSalv III (manual included)
-> AmigaOS 3.9 (manual included)
-> AmigaOS 3.5 (manual included)
-> Diavolo Backup (manual included)
-> PowerUP system software (manual included)
-> TurboPrint v4, v6, and v7 (manual included)
-> AmigaWriter 2.0 (manual included)
-> AmigaOS 3.1 floppy disk set (only A4000 manual included)
-> AWeb II 3.1 (manual included)
-> MagicWB
-> PFS2 CD
-> PFS3 CD
-> fxScan 3
-> CyberGraphX v4
-> CyberStormPPC and CyberStorm Mk III update disks
-> ICS Reference Disk
-> Cocolino Driver Disk

* Peripherals and Extras
-> Amiga 4000 Keyboard, German layout (QWERTZ)
-> Amiga Technologies Mouse
-> Cocolino Amiga to PS/2 mouse adapter
-> WideSCSI to UltraWideSCSI adapter cables
-> WideSCSI cable
-> UltraWideSCSI cable with active terminator
-> (2) Competition Pro joysticks
-> Assorted supporting hardware

of course to have a useful system you'd need an IDE or SCSI drive and case. but otherwise, you've got enough hardware and software to create a really nice amiga 4000 build. we tried to get the CSPPC card working, but it appears that the PPC604e on the board has gone bad. we think it is otherwise fine, but can't really confirm.

so... anyone want to take a stab at what all of this stuff is worth if sold as a bundle? any help here is greatly appreciated. :)

Wouldn't think I'd ever catch myselv in advising against selling as a lot but since this is not a complete system splitting it makes more sence (even if it requiers more work). You lose the chance for top dollar on the items, especially the bigger the lot get's since you'll never reach a buyer who's looking for everything offered so they have to calculate with a potential loss and work selling some of the items further.

I'd at the very least look into repair/upgrade the PPC board becuase as a 040 board with defectinve PPC part it's not worth a great deal but pay 150-250Euro and all of a sudden you have a 7-900Euro (or more) part if sold seperatly... or possibly bundle it with the CVPPC and the SCSI adapters for an easier sale.

As it's listed right now I'd say around 750-800Euro, possibly a bit more if you find the right buyer but could also be less.

Didn't the CVPPC only have 8 MB of memory?

I always hate these type of threads. The old saying... how long is a piece of string?

The string is as long as the average selling/buying price on Amibay, this web site, and non-idiots on eBay; of course one would have to be interested in wanting the string and not sitting at home wishing the string was free.  :)

Unfortunatly you can't put a single price on every item as if it was single item's sold off of Amibay since it's sold as a unit. Yes it seller was to split the items and have the nessesary time and willing to wait for the right buyer then Amibay prices apply but if selling 30+ items as a bundle only and you won't get those amounts.

I stand with my previous posted estimate for the bundle and my recomendation of concidering splitting at least some of the more valuable items from the bundle... aswell as concidering repair/upgrade the CSPPC with a 68060 and faster PPC (a risk that could be very well rewarded).

You don'say!  I guess just adding up the numbers is just a worthless exercise in math.

If it can convince the seller of splitting the lot and sell it on AmiBay then no, else yes.

Well, rather than not helping to answer the question, what other negatives can you add to the thread?  We all need negative contributions to threads as they shows us classic examples of people's behavior that we do not want to emulate.

Pritty sure I was the first to post an answer to the actuall question "he wants to sell it as a bundle", unless you count the one million dollar post. Not only did I answer the question I also came with suggestions. Your answer set expectations that are highly unlikely to be met unless seller is willing to sell it in a different way than said, a suggestion I've made but not heard the seller be willing to do yet.
