Vintage Computer Festival East X (10)
« on: April 04, 2015, 01:01:58 AM »
Look like there is an 8 bit get together in our area. http://www.vintage.org/2015/east/  is the link for this meeting. Hope to see people from the Washington D.C./Baltimore area there. This was posted over on Lemon64 by a Baltimore member.
I have nothing to do with this meeting. I just want to spread the word for the local 8 bit people.

I would surely hope so. I am looking forward to this, but I have amiga, C-128, and C-64 machines here - so I have it all covered.

I know this thread get buried quickly, but is there really no interest from our more local (Washington D.C., Baltimore, etc.) users? People always seem to gripe that we have nothing local to us. Well, here it is. Let's hear some support!

I might have some trouble making it too, but I am going to try. We don't have much that's close.
I am still working on trying to get a place for us Amiga nuts to get together in this area. Don't loose hope - it'll happen.

I've never been to one of these despite being about 30 minutes away. I always figured it would be just a bunch of neckbeards talking about the "good ole days" with some yellowed demo machines on display. Maybe that's the point of it or perhaps it's more. I may drop in this time, just to see for myself. I think hearing Brian Kernighan and Bob Frankston keynotes would be nice.

I still use C-64, C-128 and Amiga machines. But I also have a Mac, PPC G4 tower - and newer Windows machines. I find it all extremely interesting.
BTW, I also have a beard.....

I will be at VCFE, with my Amigas. We have a 30 years of Amiga display we are bringing celebrating both the original machine all the way up to modermized 1200s and the current Operating systems. I don't have Amiga OS 4, but I do have MorphOS on a Mac Power Book. You can check out our google+ page at thegurumeditation.org which has our youtube channel as well which will have videos of our prep for VCFE, modernizing the 1200, and other Amiga projects we have planned as well as video we take at VCFE 10.
We'll have at least one of each model line there this year, only missing the Tower versions of the 3000 and 4000. Probably something we will do every VCFE from now on, with varying displays each year we can make it.

The VCF East show is great.  I really enjoy going every year and the venue is also very interesting with a great communications museum.  This year there will be a couple of Video Toaster booths, a booth about going online with your Commodore, and our Amiga 30 booth.  It is our fist time doing a booth so it might be a little rough around the edges (our 4000 is a tad yellow but fully functional!), but will still be good.  Here is a link to the exhibit lineup: http://www.vintage.org/2015/east/exhibit.php and our YouTube playlist that will have a re-cap of our booth as well as the other Amiga booths (hopefully) if you can't make it. Hundreds of people are there... families... men, women, and children.

A wide variety of 1960's to early 1990's computers are there.  To see photos from past VCF East's, go to

http://www.dickestel.com/commodore.htm#exhibit

and click on the Vintage East links.

Oh... and those gun-metal gray computers from the 1960's don't yellow.  ;)

Amiga/Retro fans 35 minutes away? I'll be there. I wanted to go last year and meet Haynie, but missed it due to scheduling conflicts. I missed the past few TCFs as well, but I'm bringing the whole fam for this one... :)
