AmigaX1000 Team on Folding@home
« on: February 16, 2015, 12:44:48 AM »
I just started a new team on Folding@home. The Folding@home Link is http://folding.stanford.edu/home/

If you don't know what this is be sure to check it out.

The team link is
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=228106

If you join Folding@home please join the AmigaX1000 Team. Use the team number of 228106.

Maybe someone can port the folding@home app to Amiga4.1 and we can use our Amiga's to do the work. Have fun Folding  :)

If you look at the front page, you will see that for most threads the view count is one more than the post count, so do not rely on the view count to see how many have read this or any other thread.
I do not have an X1000 so cannot help, but i have now looked at this thread three times.

So not knowing what Folding@home was -

"We are scientists. Citizens. Gamers. Thinkers. Parents. Friends. Family. We've joined forces to donate our unused computer power to help uncover the mysteries of protein folding and fight diseases. We are Folders, and this is our home."

I don't think there will be a high turn out of X1000 owners, but I like the idea. Good luck.

Wasn't the old joke that users of 4.1... update 1... update 2...update 3... etc., that X1000 owners only turned on their machines in order to install updates?  ;)  Maybe this will be a good use of some of that unused CPU power!  I always liked the other one though, SETI@home.  Is that still around?  Maybe more appropriate for this group of nerds.  ;)

@A600

The software supports Mac, Windows and Linux. So you don't need a X1000 to do this. There is no software that supports Amiga OS. I just like the idea of Amiga supporters doing this in the names of our love of Amiga.

@Oldsmobile_mike
Yes SETI@home is still up and running as well. Lol finding alien life is like finding people that use Amiga so maybe you are right  :)

Best of luck. I've been part of Amiga distributed teams since 1997. First http://distributed.amiga.org, later https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Devices for the cancer project, then the Amiga team migrated to World community grid about 9 years ago where cycles are are donated to many different projects including folding@home I think.

Team AmigaNet http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=0P0WP3WKP1. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reach the team captain in many years. (Ross, where are you buddy?!) But I keep chugging away adding results. I'm such a lemming.
