FastLane Z3 - How to tell if 64MB or 256MB Version
« on: February 11, 2015, 05:34:21 PM »
Title says it all...

If it helps, mine has a Phase5 sticker on it. PCB Rev. 2.2. Date codes on chips would indicate a late 1993 mfg. date (October?)

To the best of my knowledge very few (possible no one) has ever been able to make 256 megs actually work on a Fastlane, that is if you could even still get the firmware updates to support it.  I would like to hear if it has ever been done!  Good Luck

I think @danbeaver can burn the updated ROM's for this device.  Am sure he'll be along shortly to confirm.  ;)

Does this really work? I had heard about updated ROM's along time ago. No one I knew had the correct file or programmer at the time. Sounds great! Good Luck...

Search the forums, there is a lot of info about this card already posted recently:

As Mike pointed out, I can burn the 8.5 ROM's ($5 a blank and $5.70 worldwide shipping), but it won't solve the SCSI issue.  OK, it didn't solve MY SCSI issue.  I also am out of blanks.

It works as Z3 RAM, although a ZorRAM and especially a BigRAM+ are much cheaper.  Secondly, FitzSteve on Amibay did extensive research on how to get his beyond 192 MB of RAM and never could (so he sold it to me).  I could never get the SCSI to work and traded it for Lord Only Knows what.

Read the threads Mike posted on the frustration of this card.

I think the original question was how to tell if it's 64mb or 256mb, only way I could think of if it still works with 4x1mb per group then it doesn't support 256mb.  I imagine if you have one of the 256mb upgrade ROMs they probably put a sticker on noting that.  It's not just the SCSI ROM that needs updating, one of the PLDs needs replacing as well.  I couldn't find anyone that has the code for that so it's probably lost.
