Amiga "pregnant" mouse
« on: January 04, 2015, 07:58:55 PM »
Are these as rare as I've been made to believe?

Had someone here, won't name names, that made me a very handsome offer for just the mouse from the 3000D system I recently offered up.

Really took me by surprise.

Didn't use to be, but these days, who knows. I should have a couple of those ugly damned things here some where. Are they really worth $$$$?

The three button ones like yours was, yes.  Had one back in the day, was the best mouse I ever had on an Amiga.  I had a "want to buy" post open on Amibay for one a while back, think I had my post up for a year and not a single person offered to sell me one.  Obviously don't need anymore thanks to Cocolino, but the three button "pregnant" mouse still has a fond spot in my heart.  ;)

And with 3 buttons and the tank look (no rounded edges) Unlike the last Amiga mouses which also had a baby bump but only 2 buttons.

@Curtis

The 3000D mouse has a few things going for it:

It is a great mouse ergonomically to use, for my use it is the best mouse to use for comfort that I have ever used, the 3000D also had a great keyboard to boot.  Have no idea why more manufactures didn't take the design.

Secondly, it was made at the high point of the companies history and that holds a higher value.  In today's world the 3000D is sold for more than a 4000D (with a similar processor) on many if not most occasions, especially if the 3000D didn't have motherboard damage and has later chip versions.

Hope you don't miss it too much:).

For me, it's so simple. The best classic amiga mouse ever! Great ergonomically and the buttons/switches have very good quality that make them work very good for years and years unlike the classic tank type. Even the buttons feel great to the touch, it' sjust great.

I have many of these mouses I've bought over the years. I was lucky enough to find a 3 button one many years ago.. and.. no, it's not for sale!

Cheers,

This is one area that I guess I am a heretic. As far as I am concerned, you can take any and all ball mice, and throw them in the garbage. I guess it's OK to keep one around jut so you can say you have an original, but not to actually use. Go laser!

So funny how this thread is on here as I was getting some of my Amiga items out of my storage unit(recently moved etc) and had wanted a mouse and I almost grabbed my prego but opted for another :-).

I was always a fan of the Amiga 1000 mouse. Later 500 and 2000 mice LOOKED the same, but the mice from 1000's have bigger balls. It really does make a difference. For the longest time I kept replacement pushbutton switches, and I replaced them as often as needed to keep the mouse feeling fresh.
All my classic Amigas are gone now, but I recently found a box of mouse repair parts, including enough parts to put an A1000 mouse together. I gave some thought to transplanting a wireless laser into it, but the loss of the mousewheel would be a deal-breaker for me.

Do bigger balls make a difference? I'd always heard it was the length that mattered.

I'll skip the usual "giggity" joke here, and just go with this, instead:

I too loved the Amiga 3000 mouse.  I never had the 3 button version so I'm envious but I thought it was the best mouse I have ever used on the Amiga.

Good times...
