A-EON acquires Aladdin4D for AmigaOS
« on: December 11, 2014, 03:16:39 PM »
from facebook:

Quote
A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that it has purchased the AmigaOS source code and development rights for Aladdin4D from DiscreetFX. As part of the agreement A-EON will exclusively own the Aladdin4D 68K and PPC source code, domain name, brand and rights for all AmigaOS and related versions including emulation and future MorphOS and AROS ports. Meanwhile DiscreetFX will retain the rights for non-Amiga relatd operating systems....
wow. so, that was unexpected. :lol:

Thank goodness!

Now maybe some development will actually get done.

A-Eon, please contact me - I might be the last active Aladdin4d user out there and I have a ton of suggestions.

Nice. Will the Windows version still come free with the AmigaOS version?

Im not going to pretend I know the answer to that question, but noticed that DiscreetFX retains the rights for non-Amiga related OSs;

@thread

personally i'm just thrilled with where they're going. development projects in flight from A-EON include libreoffice, octamed soundstudio, personal paint, aladdin4D, amistore, etc., etc. and the best thing is that for most of these software projects, in addition to being developed for next-gen machines, they're keeping stuff updated for AOS3.x machines, too. it's just terrific.

This is good news. Aladdin 4D was heading into oblivion with DiscreetFX for whatever reasons they told us.

I am glad it is now in hands of a company that wishes to do something about it.
This is a good move from A-EON.

As someone commented before, it would be nice to see other orphan, but good software like PageStream get some love.

Now if someone could find the holder of the SoftWood's Final Suite and force them to take some money we can have some good 68K stuff again.

OpenOffice is better than any Amiga versions. Word Perfect is the exception. I did like Final Writer, but it would need a lot modernising.

Open Office on 68k? not enough horsepower.

Dare I guess that 180 AROS users need to cough up money in advance to even get you to try compile it for AROS?
AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions. And they\\\'d go faster. --D.Haynie
