My understanding is: he seemed pretty quick to take the money, but didn't send the poster any key, generic or not. That's fraud, pure and simple.
the 'taking' of the money is automatic. when he gets back from his trips, he then forwards keys to folks. the issue is also that the key generator is effectively lost at this point. i agree stefan should post something saying that people should expect to wait a while before getting their keys, or at least lower the price, or... anything, really.

i should also point out that stefan is no longer involved in MUI development, even though he receives funds for keys. the current development team are awesome guys, so, let's be careful about throwing around the 'fraud' term. i wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea. that said... yeah, the situation is unfortunate.

@Jeff

i do hope you get your key soon! :)

>the 'taking' of the money is automatic.

He's obviously set it up previously to be automatic. Automating something doesn't absolve you of responsibility for it.

>when he gets back from his trips, he then forwards keys to folks.

These generic keys that are presumably no different from pirate ones? Why not just use a pirate key in that case? It's not like the registration money goes to the people who actually develop the software anyway. May as well send the money to any other random Amiga user for their pirate key.

>the issue is also that the key generator is effectively lost at this point.

And by this point he has had time to write a new key generator, or change things so that it doesn't automatically take people's money, or change it so it doesn't need a key, or do something else to fix the situation.

>i should also point out that stefan is no longer involved in MUI development, even though he receives funds for keys.

Shouldn't the developers who actually work on the software be the ones getting the money?

>the current development team are awesome guys, so, let's be careful about throwing around the 'fraud' term.

I never said *they* were fraudulent. In fact they must be pretty awesome to do all this work just to line someone *else's* pockets who pretty clearly has left the platform long ago.

My point was that I did get the email saying I could use some other persons key that was supposed to be sent as an attachment. It of course never showed up.  I mainly sent the money to support the programmers. I'll probably never actually "require" it anyway. Thanks for clearing it all up. At least I know what happened.

Didn't they remove the key requirement in 3.9 anyhow?  I managed to buy an MUI key way way back when.  Still have it and MagicWB versions I paid for on my hard drive.

But I would think by now that MUI should just be open sourced, since it's such a required library for the Amiga.

P.S. That of course doesn't mean they shouldn't receive donations for putting out new versions.

MUI should be ignored and focus should be on Zune.

No, it isn't.
