Hope this low price for AmigaOS 4.1 Final, Full-Install means many more OS sales :) :D

I have no problems paying 2 x 30 bucks, and this, for a superb OS. It is like a couple of beers, 2 snusboxes (Swedish tobacco, or say two packs of smokes) and then eating a Pizza here in Sweden :D

It's just half or a quarter of a night hehe ;)

I pay (times 2) this gladly for our favorite OS and this feature list, eeeasy :) :)

@Hyperion

Keep it going strong and thank you again :) :D

I suspect you will be in the minority.  You can never please everyone.  30 EURO for this update + some new features is worth it IMHO, and as mentioned in the press release is likely the cheapest full release of AmigaOS ever.  But to each his own.  Wait for 4.2 then I guess ;)

That's just my point - who in their right mind is going to shell out even 30e for 4.1 Final Edition when 4.2 is not too far down the road and is also a pay for product coming from 4.1 final update?  Just doesn't make sense if I have to buy 4.2 all over again to keep up to date not far down the line.  In mean, don't get me wrong - the price for 4.1 Final Edition is certainly much better than the 100e or so I paid for 4.1 for my SAM, so there's going to be a lot of first time takers on it, I just don't know why someone like myself would bother.  Can simply wait for 4.2 and save myself the money.

Why would anyone bother?  It's silly - but then again, some people bought Windows ME, and whaddya know, 2 months later they turned around and forked over money for Windows 2000, just so they could say they were running the newest thing on the block...

Well, I'll buy it if for anything else just to set next to my OS3.5 and OS3.9 CDs! Haha... But more than that, to run under emulation with quit a few new enhancements before 4.2 comes out (which BTW I read somewhere is not going to be anytime soon - maybe not even in 2015). I think that if you already own an X500 or X1000 you may not really want or need this final edition if you plan on waiting for 4.2. On the other hand, those that want to run under emulation could start tinkering right away and it includes all the updates. This could also give laptop owners a real opportunity for AmigaOS4 using WinUEA or FS-UAE on Windows and MAC OSX.

Concerning some SAM boards, Another reason to buy this disk is due to a U-Boot update. Acube's SAM computers require a more recent version of the second level bootloader (SLB) than is contained on the original Amiga OS4.1 CD. Meaning, owners of a SAM wouldn't be able to boot from their original CD but would have to download and burn a customized CD image from ACube first. Plus... dang! The price is right! And no new PPC hardware to buy!

dunno, but we need it for personal paint 7.3, the new video players supporting the new radeonHD driver, and it will be the baseline requirement for libreoffice and the new AOS4 octamed soundstudio port that A-EON announced at the show.

so things are moving in a positive way. :)

It's really odd that so much software coming from A-EON will require 4.1FE considering that I keep hearing about this big split and continuing bad blood between Hyperion and A-EON.

You make it sound like they are working together but surely the good people of Moobunny can't be wrong.

I have no problem paying 30 Euros for this even if only because they deserve it. 30 Euros is (for example) half the price of one PS4 game and yet Hyperion have given us years and years of free updates

30 Euros to show support for the work that Hyperion have continually done even through incredibly stressful times when they could easily have given up and gone to a FAR more lucrative job.

These guys work their backsides off for years, yet people complain they're not doing anything (they obviously have never seen the SVN change logs). They put up with so much FUD and misinformation (some through ignorance, some through malice) from the very group of people they're trying to help.

They're not a charity, nor are they heroes: they're just some guys trying to make a living while doing what they love and are dedicated to. But they've gone through some very lean times like the rest of us and have stuck it through and provided us with an OS they can be proud of, and yet have been sniped at on forums all the while because some would rather the Amiga have no progress at all than go down whatever route they prefer.

We're not a mass-developed OS like Windows. Windows can provide free updates because they keep selling the base OS. AmigaOS is a tiny market, once you've sold a few thousand copies, the amount of sales drop off massively, and yet still people require updates, so still the updates come... even though Hyperion right now are making very little off OS4....

We are so lucky to be having any development at all. I am happy to pay them 30 Euros to keep them going, and maybe even to help give them a Christmas bonus.

Thee are, of course, other companies and organisations for which most of my above text can be applied, but I think Hyperion by far get the most lies and  accusations about them, and yet still here we are with another update with new features, better stability, and perhaps most importantly, new support towards 4.2 which will fully utilise our multi-core machines which are coming out.

Thank you, Hyperion, for giving us Amiga OS 4.

Now please take my 30 Euros.

You have some kind of "Crystal Ball" that has told you when AmigaOS4.2 is going to be finished and released???  Can I borrow it for a month to get all the sports results, so I can make enough bets to win a few hundred thousand dollars, then I won't worry about money for a few years.  :)

Seriously, no information has been released on how much work has been completed toward finishing AmigaOS4.2, or how much more work is needed to complete a release version of AmigaOS4.2, so it could be just 2 more weeks, or it might be 2, or more years, before we have the opportunity to purchase AmigaOS4.2.  Do you want to support the continuing development of AmigaOS4.x and be ready for the announced software projects that A-Eon and AmigaKit are sponsoring (such as the port of Libre Office and others), or do you want to wait an unknown amount of time until AmigaOS4.2 is completed and maybe save yourself 30 Euros?  There is no guarantee that AmigaOS4.2 will be a stand alone version, which does not require the purchase of AmigaOS4.1Final Edition, so you may have to purchase it anyway, before 4.2 can be installed.  Bottom line, I think buying AmigaOS4.1FE is a good idea for multiple reasons, but your mileage may vary.  Do what ever you think is best for yourself.:)

While the patronizing "crystal ball" comments are amusing, I was merely expressing my opinion.  If you find personal value in 4.1 FE, Dave - Godspeed, damn the torpedos, buy it and I sincerely hope you and anyone else who buys it truly enjoys it, but the personal snark could have been left behind, imo.  No offense, man.  I already paid 100e for 4.1 and it'll suit my purposes until 4.2 comes out.  Last copy of W7 I bought was $59.

I don't purchase in order revision incremental updates, just as I wouldn't have paid for XP SP1, Vista SP1, W7 SP1, or any other in line, in revision number updates.  Just as I wouldn't have shelled out a dime for 4.1 u1 through u6, they were minimal and incremental at best - again, IMHO.  Again, just personal opinion, and I am sure many people will jump at the 30e offer if it's only to use the OS for emulation.  Unfortunately, I have no interest in PPC Amiga emulation on commodity hardware, I've had a SAM 440 sitting beside me for the last 6 years.  Personal choice is a wonderful thing, and that's something we can all agree on I'm sure.

4.2 might come within 2 months, or it might not be here until Q1 2018 for all I know.  In fact, if I had this mystical crystal ball you mentioned, I'd probably have more value for FE than I do.  I'd know that 4.2 is either 6 months or 2 years away, and in the latter, 30e for FE would be money well spent in the interim.  But 4.2 might be 4 months away for all I know, and I don't like buying things twice in short succession or having anything remotely resembling recurring payments going on - same reason I don't use "rent to own" subscription software like Office 365 or the Adobe sub suite.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for it so I don't have to spend my money twice if I end up still having my SAM when 4.2 comes out.  Or I'll just stick with my MOS machines and avoid the whole mess :)

Cheers,
Duce

Why is humor from a moderator almost always perceived as "snark", when the same comment from almost any other member would not raise any question regarding the tone of the same comment?

I am sorry if you feel offended in any way, I was simply pointing out the facts that none of us know when 4.2 will come out, or how much of it is completed already, and giving my own personal opinion on why I think buying 4.1FE is a good idea.  I understand your point of view and have no problem with anyone who wishes to wait for 4.2 and NOT purchase 4.1FE, but I also see merit in supporting the developers for the work already done, providing funds to continue current development, and being ready to install the proposed new software projects & ports, that claim to need 4.1FE as a baseline.

Nothing personal or offensive was intended in my post and the Crystal Ball comment was only added in jest to add some humor to my opinions.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

30EUR for a new AOS version is cheap and I get to support my favorite OS.

Seems like a very good deal for me :)

I welcome all progress on AmigaOS and am delighted that the Amiwest meeting went well and that there are some new features coming soon.

However AmigaOS4.1FE confuses me a little.
As an AmigaOne X1000 owner, I have already paid for AmigaOS4.1 and AmigaOS4.2.
4.1FE feels like paying again for features that I have paid for already in 4.2.
This annoys me.

Is AmigaOS4.1FE required in order for to make use of the programs announced at Amiwest (Amistore, Mplayer, CANDI, PPAint, etc)?
