D-UAE Dedicated Amiga Emulation Station- Preorders for the Next Run

This is not a heavily modified version of Windows XP,  its Windows XP Embedded,  which every T5730,5735 owner has legal rights to as it is freely available for download from HP's website.  

As far as speedwise it runs games just fine,  these are fine tuned systems fully tested before sale.  

The workbench pack that is included is ClassicWB 3.1 in Picasso96 mode.  I did not tweak that experience,  and ClassicWB 3.1 is available for anyone to download and set up on your own system.

I am not greedy,  You are paying for the hardware and the cost of an AmigaForever Plus license which is 30 dollars in itself.  The thin clients run me on average between 35-45 dollars each.  then the cost of a 16GB Flash drive which runs around 15 dollars in my neck of the woods,  same with the 8GB you get with it which contains AmigaForever.  So its $110 just in hardware.   I also include shipping which runs another 12 dollars plus the cost of packing material.  So im right on the ballpark with pricing.

I do this for fun,  not to make a ton of money.  This is an affordable way for someone who cant afford a real amiga to get the experience of having the amiga like experience.

Personally, I can't imagine a 1 Ghz CPU being all that useful for emulating an Amiga. You'll also note that the promotion video on the website never shows any Amiga games or applications running. Not to mention that the Workbench setup shown in this video doesn't look like too much time was spent fine-tuning things.

The business model in general strikes me as greedy. Buy old, practically useless thin clients somewhere, slap a new OS setup on the CF card, then sell for 135 USD?  That's some nice pocket money. And abusing a community site for aggressive spamm^h marketing (12 threads or something like that have been opened about the "AmiGO", "Amiga Mini", "D-UAE" so far) isn't my cup of tea either.

To those who want to buy the OS setup seperately: He can't do that, as it contains Windows XP. I doubt selling heavily modified versions on DVD is covered by the XP license.

A Windows version that has the actual Windows branding removed and does not boot into the normal desktop certainly fits my (and most likely Microsoft's) definition of "heavily modified".

Now if you're okay with making up your own licensing terms, I won't try to convince you otherwise. I'm just saying a stand-alone distribution would be an even dumber idea, so people should stop asking for it.

The really affordable way is to just buy Amiga Forever and use the included KX Light - it uses Linux (a modified Knoppix, to be precise) to achieve what you are doing with Windows XP.

You did (again) not reply to som99's remark about the processor used in these thin clients. Care to comment?

Actually, MS doesn't have anything to do with the HP embedded license. HP is the holder of those embedded licenses as they were purchased by HP for resale with the thin client machine. HP has their own terms of licensing for those machines. Also, the reason that it is OK to distribute the embedded XP license is because the HP license of XP won't run on anything other than that HP thin client; hence, freely available from HP. I doubt that there is even a 25 digit license key sticker on the HP thin client machine at all. No license to activate because it's an HP OEM license. The terms of the license would be available from HP. Booting straight to UAE has nothing to do with modifying the XP operating system either. These are facts, sorry.

As far as selling price goes, what do you care?

Geeze, why are people still arguing about this?  +1 to everything @gizmo350 said.  I have absolutely no use for one but don't begrudge the guy his right to sell them. I do not care that he is selling them, but I care that he is stating it's a Sempron 2200+ which is a 1,5GHz CPU but in reality it only has the AMD Mobile Sempron 2100+ which is at 1GHz, that's quite the difference, the strange thing is that I have nicely pointed it out a few times without any response and he keeps writing that it's another CPU then that is.

That is plainly lying to customers. Would you be happy if you bought a computer said to be 1.5GHz and got a 1GHz CPU or a 3GHz computer that only is a 2GHz computer? Same % difference and that's not even mentioning that the Mobile CPU has lower performance per clock then the desktop one he is claiming it to be. He have even replied that it's a 1.8GHz CPU at one point.

So he keep making threads stating it has a CPU it don't and do not edit the threads after beeing told so over and over.

But sure I can sell a 030 accelerator and state it has a MMU CPU clocked at 50MHz and the person will get a non MMU 33MHz CPU card, I am sure no one would mind...

It's not like it's hard to press edit on a post and fix it, he even writes false specs on other places then this, he can not have missed it since it's been pointed out many times now.

I started out nicely talking to him giving him advice in how to upgrade the CPU if he wanted to and I can even suply him with a custom BIOs I made that adds CPU ID's for faster CPU's then the Original BIOS ROM can handle, I myself have a lot of thin clients so I know what I am talking about, ive soldered another RAM socket and got a 2.2GHz CPU running on the exact same system.

How can no one else then me and cgutjahr see that this is a problem?

It might be nice if people cut some slack here. IF we see the Clonezilla posted and available then there will be proof this isnt about making money. I can get one of the boxes easily but would love to have an easy way to Amigafy the box.

I find that a little odd, anyone can make a mistake, but when pointed out there is normally some reaction. Either "Thanks, I fix that" or "Your wrong, it stays the way it's listed" come to mind, but no reaction.........hmmm.

Im not trying to make a killing off these things,  Just trying to cover my costs.  And I will be releasing a clonezilla image of the config once I sort out the costs for that.   I designed this system and Im not going to just give it away.   Sorry I worked too hard on this just to do that.

Appreciate that you are not trying to make a killing of the machines and I have not complained about that, but you have not replied even once on why you keep writing the wrong CPU and wrong speeds of it.
I have not complained on anything about your project just plainly pointed out that you keep writing the wrong CPU and you keep ignoring it, making new threads still writing wrong.

Why do you ignore it, why do you not just change it to the correct information about the specifications of your machine?
If you do not know how to check what CPU is used in the machine you can see this in BIOS, in windows system overview and to be 100% sure install CPU-Z to see detailed specifications about the CPU.
