You do know that the "mp" in mp3 stands for "Missing Pieces" ? Seriously guys.... And don't even ask me what the 3 means, but probably multiplied by 3....not good.

MP3 is an audio-specific format that was designed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and references MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III.

I suppose I should have also mentioned that I am running a P-IV at 1152xsomething, and a whole bunch of patches to take stuff out of Chip RAM.  It probably makes a little difference.  As well, the library used to decode the MP3 in the first place probably makes a difference.  I am not certain which I am using, most likely whatever AmigAMP uses by default.  Again, high bit-rates ain't cuttin' it on my system.  128kbps is the highest I can reliably play whilst doing other things.  192kbps stutters sporadically, and anything higher you can forget about altogether.

the piv gets really slow anything over 1024x768x24(its not fast in this mode either)-800x600 would probably be noticeably faster. decoding libs will make a difference.
what accelerator and on what amiga are you doing this? is the deneb in z3 operation?

Last time i tried was on my 030/50 and was terrible.

Never tried on my ppc 175/040 because had much more capable hardware and software for playing mp3 i guess

030/50 can do it with the right software setup, but you won't be multitasking much if any.

i assume you meant a blizzard, and thats a really slow card(blizppc is 32bit throughout where the cyberstorm ppc is 64bit on the ppc side) csppc is much faster. i doubt the blizppc at those speeds would do much better but i could be wrong. the 1200 is full of bottlenecks and you cant expect much from the horrible unbuffered ide.

Is there really that much of a difference from 2.5 MB/s with the A1200 IDE and the 35 MB/s on the UWSCSI of the CSPPC?

I've had no trouble playing 192kpbs streams using stock AMPlifier and AHI 4.0 on an A4K with CSII 060.  No slowdowns in PIO or DMA modes on the Deneb.  Given that PIO worked, I see no reason that rapidroad would not play smoothly when the updated usbaudio class comes out, at least if connected to an Xsurf100 card.

I suspect games that use AHI might cause hiccups, but I never tried.  I may get one for MP3 playback alone.  Deneb is a fragile device and should probably not be used as anything but a DMA HDD controller.

Jens is going to test RapidRoad with a USB sound card (initially on the clockport) this week! This is very exciting! An update to poseidon, (probably as Terse said), of the USB Audio class will be awesome! Z3 mode will be even faster of course. Of course! :) It was like switching from HDD to SSD. Apart from the numbers, CSPPC scsi does not use the cpu (If I remember correct, around 2% of 060-50).

I was able to play divx videos without frame skipping if I also used Delfina Lite for decoding the audio part of the videos. And in 2000s my friends with PC's were not able to do that. :P
