Amiga mouse not working properly

Hello all.  After a few years I ordered a 3.1 ROM form my Amiga 2000.  Its starts and boots from hard drive and everything seems in working order.  Except the mouse only move from left to right but not up and down.  I re-seated all the chips but still does not work.  Any idea what could be wrong?  Thanks.

Yes I did, even took it apart and cleaned it.  I switched the ODD and EVEN CIA also and nothing.  I wonder if the mouse is no longer good?  Also, where can I purchase Amiga Workbench 3.1 On floppy to re-install the OS?  I have it on my PC but I wave no way to transfer it to actual floppies.  Thanks all.

There's a fuse inline on the A2000 that will probably need to be replaced!  Only model that has that danged fuse!

Check the continuity of the chord.

The Fuse is not the problem if one of the Axis' is working all movement would stop if it was the fuse.

It sounds like the cable is bad.

I personally have some of these:

that way I can use a good Logitech PS2 Optical Mouse.

Just one option.

If you really want the original mouse to work again then you will have to remove the original cable, buy a new cable (Probably a Joystick Extension or Something of the like) Cut off one end and solder it into your original mouse.

+1 to the Cocolino, using mine with an optical mouse with scroll wheel, works great!  Also, try your system with a different mouse before hacking stuff.  This is a basic "is it the mouse, or is it the system" test.

Not necessarily.  I had the exact same problem, mouse would only go left and right, but not up and down.  Blown fuse.  Seems like that fuse is on one of the axis lines.  Why?  I haven't the foggiest.

Blown fuse.  It is through hole and easy to replace after pulling the motherboard.

Actually, the fuse is in the 5v power line to the mouse port. If it blows, there's no power in the mouse and neither axis works. Joysticks and mouse buttons work, cuz they're just switch closures. The fuse is only in newer motherboards... older ones could burn out traces on the board. I did see one where the mouse was sensitive to how tight the mounting screws next to the mouse port were... I've also seen a poorly seated Agnus chip do this.

If you've got a voltmeter, you can check for 5v at the joystick ports... it's been a while, but i think it's between the middle two pins on the bottom row of the connector. I used to check a lot of these, so I made a tester by wiring an LED and 220 ohm resistor to an old DB9 connector.

The fuse is shiny, yellow and about 7 mm long; if you jump it and mouse control returns, then it is blown.
