Central Intelligence Agency: Price of Amigas in 1987 is a Secret
« on: September 30, 2014, 10:20:21 AM »
A FOIA request to the CIA has resulted in many documents, including one which redacts the price they payed for their 'first Amiga' in 1987.  (Saw the usual A500 picture next to the word CIA and thought it was a technology article; no such luck).  Not sure if interesting?

@benJamin

thanks for your news submission. as the post deals with issues of USG secrecy rather than the amiga itself, we've decided to move it a general forum instead.

Funny.  My guess is they paid through the nose.  Hey, that's my taxpayer money, wonder whatever happened to the Amiga's?  :laugh1:

It all makes sense though, they need a hell of a computer to run those drones.

In some secret cia office, there is a maxed out 68060 amiga 500 running things.

More likely it was data collection until they realized the Amiga processor and storage wasn't enough for their unlimited ambitions. Drones would be more the military industrial complex and C= probably wasn't big enough to be on the DARPA radar (which Eisenhower ironically created). The redacted outdated and impertinent prices are a good example of a secretive and unaccountable government. Auditing the Federal Reserve, Department of Defense, NSA, CIA, FBI, DEA, DOJ, IRS and HHS is sorely needed as the GAO reports accounting problems and criminal probes try to uncover what is not classified for so called "national security" reasons. All we can do is hope for change from the most transparent liar ever. The only thing we can be clear about is that the U.S. government didn't buy enough Amigas to save C=.

No reason to apologize. Follow the links in the article and you will find the relased document that I found very interesting reading, and very much on the amiga topic.
The document was pleasant reading for an amiga fan, as it praises the amiga for its easy to use, cheap hardware (even though the actual price is hidden), stability (no maintenance costs), and that they also was considering to buy the amiga Unix systems planned for release in 1991.
Her is the link to the pdf doc:

Looks like they've consolidated the library and the new version of the document no longer redacts the prices.  Interesting reading their almost palpable excitement for the possibilities the machines provided.
