BD9 mouse to USB

The USB mouse has to support the PS/2 protocol, so I know that rules out most modern USB mice.

I'm really only interested in it for shortening the connection path. I currently have a Cocolino DB9 to PS/2 adapter with an old Logitech Optical USB mouse and a USB-to-PS/2 adapter sandwiched in between.

I would like to take out the middle-man so to speak.

Interesting note: I have other Optical USB mice that support the PS/2 protocol (one being a Microsoft mouse) that works fine on a Windows box, but does not work with the Cocolino. This would be my only concern with this new adapter. I wouldn't have any idea if my Logitech or Microsoft mouse would work for sure until I tried it.

For $5 USD you can buy a new optical PS/2 mouse for your Cocolino via Amazon or eewBay.

Yeah, I thought of that too. I even have a couple of PS/2 optical mice. One works and one does not. So, again, I am left wondering which optical mice are compatible. Just because it includes PS/2 support, is no guarantee Cocolino will like it. The one that works was a random find in a junk pile and is missing feet. Not ideal to use that one.

Then there is the thought that if I have a USB optical mouse that is also PS/2 compatible, the optical resolution could be higher/smoother than an older PS/2-only optical mouse.

I had the same problem with my A1200 Tower.  In my case, the Cocolino was suspended from the top DB9 mouse port and because of the additional size of the USB/PS2 adapter it protruded too much (hitting the back of my desk)

In the end, I used DB9 extension cable so I could position the Cocolino at the bottom of the tower and consequently it wasn't precariously protruding.  As an alternative, I suppose I could have used a Micromys instead because they are cable based.
