Mikomi 19 inch lcd - rgb on scart?
« on: August 21, 2014, 06:09:53 PM »
I've just got a Mikomi lcdw19hd flat screen tv after my in-laws upgraded. There is little info online about this so does anyone know if the scart socket supports RGB or is it composite only? It has hdmi so it's still useful for my raspi.
Thanks.

One would have to guess that support for HDMI in a monitor/TV would include RGB on the SCART port, but even failing that one can purchase a SCART-to-HDMI converter off eBay for £28 or so.  I personally believe they work great but at least 2 forum members prefer a SCART-to-Composite converter for scrolling games, C'est la vie

I've done some more reading on SCART. This tv doesn't auto switch to the SCART input when a source is turned on so I suspect it isn't a full RGB input. I'm not able to test the tv at the moment but when I can I'll try it with a DVD player and full SCART cable and look at image quality.

A DVD may use standard PAL resolution in 4:3 format depending on how it was encoded and whether the DVD player up scales or not.

I've done some testing as planned and the image from the DVD player is poor quality with a fully wired SCART lead (upscaling doesn't apply if using SCART, only HDMI). I didn;t even test with a disc - I just used the menus etc.

There is ghosting on the image so it's either composite or the RGB input on the TV is poor quality/broken. Ah well/ I was looking forward to a flat scren miggy but at least I have a proper Philips CM8833 II to use still.

I guess the rgb input of the TV is poor. With LCD's, they have to upscale it to a progressive scan image, and those upscalers are most often el-cheapo barely usable garbage.
I've yet to see a tv with SCART that does not support RGB.
I'm not sure where you're from, but you can also try a big old crt telly with SCART input. Perhaps a bit more available than your Philips CM8833, and with RGB, still a nice clear image :)

Yeah, cheaper and easier to use an old television then convert the SCART to HDMI and use hi-res modes with no flicker.

I plugged the Amiga into our living room flat screen (Toshiba 32 inch) and get a beautiful image. Tried all modes up to super hi res laced and its usable. At least I know the amiga and cable are good. I hope to do some videos this weekend and will put on YouTube soon.
