Yeah, Amithlon is nice provided all you want to do is run OS3.x quite fast, but I don't see it having much of a future unlike AROS, MOS and OS4...

Anyway, i'm sure all you 'thloners out there are very grateful to Richard Drummond for bringing a useful port of UAE to your favoured platform :-) I'm so glad he took up the challenge of backporting WinUAE updates to the UAE tree.

Edit: heh, just noticed you're not using Rich's port. Is that a special Amithlon version?

@T1gha

What's that game in some of the screenshots where the mutants/aliens take over the guys ship??

Also, how does UAE perform through Amithlon?
How does it compare with WinUAE on equivalent hardware?

Cheers,

Graham C

Anyway, its the perfect platform for me.

Not quite fast. Very very fast. So fast I prefer it over linux/wintel.

As for future, I feel all amiga Amiga clones have little in common with my needs.

I welcome an updated UAE port, and enjoy Richardss ports and work. They are a bit unstable atm, but Im sure it will give results further on.

I use the port I found somewhere (Aminet ?)

Maybe I should link it on my homepage.

Great! I'm happy for you :) Its a shame about the political shenanigans behind it, but it has provided a nice platform for a lot of people. Personally, I'll stick with OS4 as my main platform, thanks ;-)

The game is Turrican II, an good classic amiga game.
UAE running on amithlon preforms well.

Like the Windows port, things slow down when thre is a lot of stuff going on. Hard to compare realy. The Amiga port is a bit outdated an have some bugs. With an updated port, I think more real life compare could be done.

Most of the time I get 50 fps :)

ATM I only have an AMD 2400XP, hopefully an more updated/newer CPU might bring more "brute force" power.

3.9 is not perfect, its still my favorite OS.
I see no bug/missing features realy.

"nice to have" fetures could be just "nice", but I like it this way.

My guess is that you enjoy the more posix/*nix like functions in Morphos ?

If I like AmigaOS 3.X, I could:

1. Buy used Amiga hardware that contains several issues.

- Slow, expesive, rare etc..

2. Use Amithlon and use all kinds of cool hardware.

- Use updated sate of the art hardware etc..

Still, Im sure Morphos is very good. But what exactly are you missing with AmigaOS3.9 ? Just wondering :)

I will minigrate to Amiga OS 4.0 if it provide any any sane reason vs Linux. Othervise I see no restriction using Amithlon a few years further.

Turrican II is a classic game. I used to play it often, I still can't remember seeing that intro before though?? Maybe I skipped it to get to the game quicker!!
