Definitely hasn't hurt Google's standing.
As much as I dislike Apple, there's never been a company with as loose ethics as Google. Ever.

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

:) Well, Ive completely stopped using google as my search engine a few months ago. Took a while to do since it was kinda "hardcoded" in my user patterns.
But now Ive gotten so used to duckduckgo.com that I dont even think about it. Obviously helps Ive made all my hardware use that searchengine as default.

That said; intresting speech.

@Niding

You are free to use any search engine you want. That's always been the case and is the spirit and nature of the internet.

Yup.

I do agree with his speech and vision.

I do find the increasing connectivity both intresting and worrying.
People make information about themselves readily available on the net, with little care about
who might use it and how.

Techology is developing rapidly, but I think the average users understanding of it is not keeping up.

But overall progress is good, and Google is one of the driving forces in that regard.

Please do your research before personally attacking Google without merit. Here's a good starting point for you.

Without merrit? There's a million and one examples out there. The extent of "personal data mining" associated to businesses they own is phenominal.
Also, how does one "personally attack" an entity? :)

Without Google there wouldn't be YouTube. YouTube is the best thing the internet has to offer. Period.

On the other hand Google isn't fighting the good fight for net neutrality anymore.

I'm not so worried about data mining from Google. It's Facebook I'm worried about personally.

Uhm, wasnt YouTube some dotcom startup company Google bought? That was many many years ago though...

Too bad neither Google or YouTube is working here in China. Now when I am forced to use other search engines (like Bing and Yandex) I am starting to miss it.

Yeah YouTube was a start up but it was only an idea that never would have come into fruition with a major investor willing to invest millions of $ into it like Google has done. If you take a step back and think about how much it would cost to operate something like YouTube and then think about how little profit they are most likely not (?) getting they have my utter most respect. No one else other than Google could have made YouTube work.

Google also do other cool stuff like maps and drive which I adore.

p.s. what do you do in China?

Hmm... youtube was alredy succesful before Google has bought it.
Google bought them in 2006. Youtube is from 2005 and got its initial funding from investors with the desire to resell asap:

see wikipedia:
In November 2005, venture firm Sequoia Capital invested an initial $3.5 million;[5] additionally, Roelof Botha, partner of the firm and former CEO of PayPal, joined the YouTube board of directors. In April 2006, Sequoia and Artis Capital Management put an additional $8 million into the company, which had experienced hugely popular growth within its first few months.

In 2006 google purchased it for 1.65billion $.
Google wan't control of internet. Youtube had to be purchased.

Welcome to an even better Google future for all.
End of quoting.

I am amazed by his first sentences!

"We began to bring those computers home to play Solitary at first." He starts speaking about gaming and ... the first  - good to mention - gaming started with PCs? No mention to Amiga?

"We believe the WWW exists because of entertainment" : WHAAAT!!!???: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wide_Web
