Expanding Oktagon 2008 Image to 512K
« on: June 25, 2014, 11:07:40 PM »
So I'm looking to reflash the eeprom on my Oktagon 2008 scsi controller with this image, however the eeprom is 512k and the image is only 32k.  According to this thread, a number of different sized eeproms were used, and the extra space is simply wasted. However, the guy who was burning the eeprom for me (since I don't have a burner) said that his programmer wouldn't automatically fill the whole 512K and I'd have to send him a 512K image, by editing this with a hex editor...But I'm no good with hex editors...Anyone out there able to?

What kind of EPROM is he using? A 256KB will have too many pins to fit in the socket, surely?

If you want to make it 256KB just repeat the 32KB by appending the file to itself 7 times (or 3 times if you add the resulting file to itself rather than the original file- 8 is 2 ^ 3 after all)

My advice, though: make life a lot easier on yourself and use a 32KB EPROM instead. You won't have to worry about pins sticking out and rewiring address lines and stuff with a 32KB one.
