GURU ROM for GVP SCSI
« on: February 15, 2004, 02:18:50 PM »
I'm going to upgrade my GVP ZII SCSI card with a GURU ROM, so I'm interested to know what the latest version of the GURU ROM for GVP controllers is. I've seen both v6.9 and v6.13 for sale and I'm unsure whether v6.13 is a minor update of v6.1 or if it's actually newer than v6.9... or if there's a version newer than both of them...

Does anybody know...?

Hi :-)

As the v6.9 isn't badged v6.09 you can assume that the v6.13 is newer than v6.9 ;-)

The last time i looked on the GVP-M site it was still for sale too. I would guess if you ordered it you would get the latest version.

@voxel

Yeah, I guess so.  :-)

@Acill

The ROM at the GVP-M site is their own boot ROM, whereas the GURU ROM is a third party, improved, boot ROM.

Anyway, I found someone selling v6.10 at ebay, but it says the ROM comes without adapter. I've seen that the GURU ROM retail package has a picture of the chip socketed in an adapter. What's that for? Does the GURU ROM fit in the socket on my A2000-HC+8 without the adapter...?

I can get to the Schatztruhe site, but they seem to be focusing all of their marketing skills on the Orgasmatron at the moment...

Anyway, Power Computing in England and Software Hut & Mr Hardware Computers in the USA all offer the GURU ROM. I was looking to ebay to get it cheaper, but noone seems to know whether an adapter is necessary for the chip to work in my controller.

The last email I got from Schatztruhein Nov.2003 stated the no longer supported the Guru Rom for either the GVP or A2091 controllers. My guess is anything you get from Software Hut of Mr. Hardware will be remainders. It is unlikely that any more ROMs will ever be produced.

Having said that I bought my A2091 Guru ROM from Software Hut. It was very well package, which is very important when it has to cross the border and clear customs.

An adapter is required for both the GVP and A2091 Controllers, be very careful with pins on the adapter because they are very fragile and cannot be easily be replaced.
