A500 help.
« on: February 15, 2004, 07:23:56 AM »
Okay haha, I am a newb, but I have been visiting this site for many years, since before the whole Jim Collas stuff haha.  Anywhow I was just wondering how to get an A500 to work if I don't have a power supply or the connectors for the monitor etc. :)  I think I should be able to wire up something for the monitor but the power suppy is a different issue. I think if somone could give me the pinouts for the connector I could open up the case, bypass the connector and wire in my own power supply that I rig up :) Anyways thanks. BTW is there a way to hook a hard disk to this old machine. Oh and one more, there is a cover on the bottom of this unit and inside it is a removable "board" what is this board?

Hi,

I can't help you with the power supply or monitor questions, but I'm pretty sure the removable board you're speaking of is a memory expansion (I guess 512KB extra RAM).

And to connect a Harddrive to it you would need a Harddrive controller, I think they can be found pretty cheap on EBay these days.
Slightly bored and severly confused..

Cool, hmmm I guess I should check out E-bay. Is there a site that has hardware specs for these machines, because if I can just get the voltages I need, I should be able to convert a pee-cee power supply or something for it, I'm guessing I could do something similar for the monitor haha.

Actually everything you need can be found
on EBay.
As for the power supply, I would cut the
cord off the dead PSU and splice it to an
PC AT PSU then you have enough power to run
just about anything you attach via the
expansion bus.
And yes, that trapdoor on the bottom is for
a 512k ram expander, some expanders also
had a battery backed clock.
