Is this an old amiga monitor?
« on: February 15, 2004, 04:30:17 AM »
I've been trying to find out what this old monitor I have is. It's a Microvitec monitor model 12V94DHC3, manufactured 1995. It has TTY analog, DMS input and 6 'plugs' which look like they can fit BNC connectors. A quick search said it was an amiga monitor so I thought I'd look into it and see if anyone can give me any info on this monitor.

Good old Bradford craftmanship you're seeing there!

Aye, yes, I were once a Bradford lad!

I've seen alot of amiga/commodore monitors in 20 years and that one doesn't look familiar. But judging by the connectors, it might work with the proper cable plugged in to the 9pin port. You would have to work out your own custom cable though.

No, it isn't an "Amiga" monitor per se.

It will probably display Amiga modes, if you solder together a suitable cable.

Microvitec has made many different kinds of monitor, industrial and consumer models. They just happened to be chosen to make "official" Amiga monitors back during the Escom era.. This is not one of those. :-)

Hi Largand,

really cool .-) never seen before. (it seems an indudtrial monitor or so)

Anyway, it has a TTL (not TTY) 9 pin DIGITAL input, useable on Amiga but not advisable.

The other way, is to use it in RGB analogic mode, with sync-on-green.

You can set it, from a jumper on the Amiga mobo (don't know if available for ALL Amiga models)

On A4000, it is possible and IIRC even on A1200.

Ciao

You can also build a converter.

Hi Jope,

mhhh!!! are you sure that those Microvitec monitor is a VGA/bisync or so?

IMHO it is a normal 15 khz one but i'm not 100% sure.

Ciao

Thanks for the input. I guess it isn't for amigas. I only thought it might have been because the only reference to it I could find (from google) was:

Looking for monitor Microvitec with DMS (12V94DHC3)or another monitor for computer Amiga

So the question is: what is it? I don't like having these spare monitors around. I have 2 15" monitors that I have no idea how to get rid of. I've been meaning to look into a company that can dispose of old crts. I don't want to toss this one out because it might be working. If I knew what it was or who could use it I could pass it on.

Most likely it's a normal 15kHz monitor.. If you use the D-connector, no need for sync-on-green, but the bnc inputs (lower three) will need it if they're RGB inputs.

Weirdest thing, I can't post after I log in with my previous username. Anyway,

If I was up to speed on the electronics, I think I'd have fun trying to get this work with some other device (maybe my dreamcast or something). Unfortunately, I'm not. To me, a transformer is a car that turns into a robot. So, if anyone in the Toronto (Canada) area can make some use of this, contact me. The thing is built like a tank (and only slightly less heavy) so shipping is probably out of the question but if you're in the gta...
