Not trying to hide a thing.

My ebay username is mcmccain.

As far as being a grouch.  Yeah, a bit.

However, I hate people who make a contract, even for a measly 99 cents, and refuse to honor it.

I got a pile of programs in a deal which I don't really want or need.  Just trying to recover my investment.  I've noticed if I slap a huge price on something, a lot of time it just doesn't sell.  Start low, and things tend to work better.  Eventually, I'll get my investment back, but when someone won't even honor a 99 cent contract...

I've actually discovered there are more than 2 type of Amigans.

1. Love the machine and try to promote it.
2.  Love the machine but want to bash absolutely anything that isn't classic.
3.  Love the machine and want to help it evolve.
4.  Love the machine, but hate all other people and will bash anybody and everybody any chance they get.

I try to be in 1 and 3 groups.  Everybody is welcome to their opinion.

So Megamig, where do you fit in?

Those who are happy to buy anything Amiga-related such as the X1000 even if it is a overpriced piece of junk and those who complain about 99 cents. Sad but true!

BTW please reveal your eBay username so members can avoid such a grouch.

It's easy o avoid: Just fullfill the obligtions about the contract.

When I sold a few things by ebay (mostly clothes) I was wondering how many ppl took first chance to try to ripp you off - even if it's only about a few EURs/$$$.
Pacta sunt servanda! That's also true for ebay and also for contracts about 99ct. It's a principle of civilization. If one has probs to fullfill the obligations one can ask and try to negotiate again, but bluntly ignoring the obligations is just bad behaviour and a sign of really poor education.

Well, the issues I had with airey is that I purchased an amiga 500 for my niece. It was sent to her address and so it was some months before I could inspect the amiga, upon a visit.
The a520 tv adapter was not included, though advertised and the amiga had 3 large cracks in the casing.
Basically it was %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!e and a waste of money.

No eBay here. I rather patrol car parks looking  for money left in trolley locks. It's much easier and the payment is instant! :P

And don't buy anything from 'airey' at amiga retro, he is a con artist and does not give %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@! about amigas or his customers.

I fully agree. I  purchased a "tested and working" A3000D from Airey a year or two back. I realised the same day that the A3000D was faulty as it wouldn't recognise any of my Zorro cards, so I immediately contacted him to report the problem and to arrange return of the item.

His response was basically he knows nothing about the Zorro Bus on the Amiga, and as I had opened the case I obviously caused the damage myself, and if I decided to open a dispute with ebay he would be contesting it on those grounds.

So the moral of the story if you buy anything from Airey, especially Big Box Amiga's then asume it's not been fully tested, and if you do find a fault leaky battery whatever never admit to opening the case as he will only use that as an excuse with eBay why he shouldn't accept return of the item

I've bought bits and bats off him in the past. Never anything significant though as it's obvious to me he knows nothing about Amiga's. I'm just glad he finally bought a better camera last year as his ebay photo's used to be %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!e.
I don't have any complaints about him though, I'm happy with the things I've bought from him.

I'm just going to throw this out there as a hypothetical. Based on your statement that "it was months before you could inspect the Amiga", is it possible that the A520 was misplaced and cracks occurred after he shipped it, but before you had a chance to inspect it?

What bothers me is airey36 sells copies of free PD software but gives the impression it is a used commercial disk.

I'll throw out a hypothetical to Wrath of Khan as well :D How did the case get broken? Airey, Postal Service, your Niece, someone else at your Nieces house? If you sold something, and regardless of the story you were given, were contacted months later with issues, what would you do? Did you actually contact Airey with the issue? Was he at all open to listening/trying to sort the issues? (I'm not implying he did anything wrong or that you did, but just trying to put it all into perspective - as stories aren't usually 100% as they come across).

And to the other posters stating that things were "broken"...I understand that Airey has a s*&tload of items listed at any one time, so when something is listed as working, I read between the lines and assume that a quick test only was given. It's not likely that he has had the item personally for years and knows every intricate detail about it. Likewise he is not likely to test an item for weeks prior to listing. I suppose with the A3000 Zorro slot issue, you don't know the slots don't work until you open them and try them - I get that. And it's not likely Airey actually tested them. But likewise, if we are being 100% transparent and open to possibilities, how do you know the slots (or whatever related item) wasn't broken by you accidentally? Or broken by a faulty card that you installed? Or that you had some kind of power glitch on install/test? (Once again, not saying blame shouldn't be laid with Airey. But likewise, why should it go down in history as his stuffup when maybe it wasn't???).

I noticed that someone mentioned airey36 from ebay. I must say that I buy about 12 Amigas from him and never had any problem. Also he was kind to listen my demands about finding some keyboard keys and various parts.
In fact I was talking against his work few years ago but then I realized that man is doing business and that he don't need to care about Amiga community or Amiga itself or to have some special feelings about us. Each time he was polite, answering my mails fast and everything I received was in perfect order just like he said. At the end we are dealing with such old hardware with lot of micro fractures on the PCB so items easily can be damaged no matter how he protect it.
