Amiga 1000 prices...
« on: May 30, 2014, 07:04:49 PM »
Is it just me, or have Amiga 1000 prices really gone up over the last few months?  This buffoon notwithstanding (he keeps RAISING the price and has to be trolling), what seemed to be a $200 purchase for a model in good shape a year or two ago seems to a $500-$1000 purchase for a machine in good condition.  What gives?
Amiga 2000 | GVP 68030 w/ 8 MB RAM | A2091 w/ 52 MB hard drive | Dual floppy drives

Amiga 3000 | 68030 @ 25 Mhz | 18 MB RAM | 3.2 GB SCSI hard drive

Vic 20 w/C2N datassette (trying to find it!)
C-64 w/ 1541 drive
C-128 w/ 1571 drive

What an idiot.  Amiga prices do keep rising, however, and that will probably be the case until all the collectors and hoarders die off, lol.  :furious:

What's funny is his comment at the bottom of the post:

Before you fire off that email just know I'm in NO hurry to sell.
It was only $1500 last year when I first listed this.
See you at $10,000. lolololololol.........

I'm not sure what he is hoping to accomplish. I've watched the auction for months and he keeps raising the price.  Does he think his little threat will cause someone to "jump" on it before it gets to $10,000?  He's also selling some Epson dot matrix printer from the 80s for $2,900.  For laughs, I emailed him and asked how much memory it has and if it has a hard drive.

At any rate, I'm kicking myself for not jumping on one of the $200-$300 units a year ago.

Personally I would not pay more $100-$200 for A1000 (condition dependent).
A1000 is least expandable/capable machine, you'll be using your A500 (if you have one) to play games more often then A1000, unless you want one to sit in a box and look pretty.
A500 KS 2.1, 1MB Chip, 68000
A600 KS 3.1, 2MB Chip, ACA630 32MB RAM
A1000 KS 1.3, 8MB RAM
A1200 KS 3.1, Blizzard IV 50MHz 64MB RAM
A2000 KS 2.1, 68030 25MHz, 6MB RAM
A3000 KS 3.1, 68030 25MHz, 16MB RAM
A4000 KS 3.0, 68040 25MHz, 16MB RAM
CDTV KS 3.1, 4MB RAM
CD32
(AROS BOX) Dead :(

I think he's just saying that he'll only let go of it for a ridiculous price, and doesn't actually want to sell it.

Speaking of kicking oneself.... there was someone on here a few years back that was giving theirs away for free, and I had posted that I'd like it.. he PM'd me,but I was away from Amiga.org for a bit, and didn't have PMs email me instantly... so I missed out on it.  Yes, I am kicking myself for that.  Though I ease my thoughts by thinking, "well, it probably would have just sat there next to my Mega STe, 1040 ST and TT030, since my A4000D is taking up what  little desk space I have.  So hopefully that free A1000 found a nice home.

I recently got an A1000 from my Amiga club with the memory expansion and everything, so I am surprised and kind of happy to hear that the prices are going up :)

Unfortunately it is not that useful, I honestly just set it up once after I cleaned and fixed it.  But if they make an ACA500 version for the A1000 you never know.

It could be just you. I haven't noticed it. But, I live in Australia. :)

About 10 years ago an Amiga 1000 was worth on eBay an average of just under $100aus. Now they go for around $150aus. This is a general, average price of course, as there will always be exceptions, both higher and lower, depending on the phases of the moon, what's on the TV that night, and how many drinks you've had.

Seriously though, a short essay could be written on how these things should be viewed...but the most direct, most bulls%$t chopping, straight to the point, not dealing with the irrelevant stuff, get rid of the sensationalism, not getting side-tracked by all the fricken' hocus pocus comment that I can give is - the asking price of something means absof&^*^nglutety f$#l all! It's completely irrelevant. A sale price speaks volumes.

None are in great condition.  The one that is in really nice condition states that the guy can't get it to work with the monitor.  The monitor may be bad or it may be the A1000, not sure.  Not sure I can take the chance as parts for the A1000 are hard to come by.   I ought to ping my friend, as he was going to give me his A1000 but I suspect it isn't in great condition either.  I don't have a way to hook it up to a monitor however and I'm really not sure I want another Commodore monitor.  Any suggestions on a cheap way to connect one to a modern monitor?

P.S.  The guy I referred to earlier raised his price to $5,900.  LOL!  I PMed him this morning and asked if his wife was making him get rid of it.  I bet he'll reply with a snarky response.  :D  I think I saw a brand new, never opened A1000 last year or the year before for less than his asking price.

The TV module is an add on, but there is a color composite output on the left side, as I recall.  To get 31 kHz output, I would recommend an Indivision ECS, or you could connect a SCART cable if you have that type TV.  In the states you can get HDMI output via an RGB-SCART cable to a SCART-to-HDMI converter http://www.rakuten.com/prod/scart-hdmi-to-hdmi-720p-1080p-hd-video-adapter-converter/246886968.html?listingId=264245232&scid=pla_google_TOMTOP&adid=29963) for example.  The SCART cables are available on eBay or from Amigakit.

I'm not sure what you mean by "good condition" for a 29 year-old computer with a plastic case that was superseded by a heavy metal work horse A2000 about 2 years later (1985 - 1987).  Certainly you can refurbish one to near new given time and effort, but having had two back then, they were pretty limited.

Look for seller "rbredow" selling a working 2 MB a1000 starting at $50 on eBay.

What about a fully working A4000D, A4000T, towerized A4kD, or fully expanded A2500HD refurbished to "pretty near" new?

Already have an expanded A2000 and an A3000.  Not a fan of the AGA Amigas to be honest.  I know the A1000 is limited, but it has sentimental value to me and I have always wanted one.

Man, I'm glad my A1000 is chugging along fine. I have seen a few A1000's on ebay where the asking price is $1000.00 and up (for stock 512K Amigas). But then I just saw a new Epyx Fast Load cartridge for $499.00
