Basically becasue I know how the programs work. There are probably "better" modern programs but then I would have to re-learn. Cygnus I like because of the speed and ability to load multiple files, and I know the shortcuts

Hardware:

A1200 with Blizzard 1230 IV 64 mb, 40gig HD, 22 speed DVD re-writer, PCMCIA network card and a Commodore SVGA dongle for double scan modes.

Software:

FrexxEd. Great editor with awesome scripting system (FPL, which is 99% C). You can make that editor do almost anything. Here's a simple assembler LVO completer I wrote in FPL (still needs some work, but is already usable):



Ace editor, and nothing holds a candle to it.

For the rest: A few assemblers. Currently switching to Barfly, and integrating it with FrexxEd. Adpro 2.5.1, Brilliance 2, WHDLoad, Directory Opus 5.82 (set up like Dopus4), HippoPlayer, and some other stuff.

What Classic Amiga do you still use frequently in 2014 and why?

I still use Deluxe Music 2 from Electronic Arts quite a bit.  Like others have said, it's what I'm used too.  Also, it does everything I need it to do.

Other SW I still use:  Directory Opus, Deluxe Paint IV, Hippoplayer, OctaMED, Sonix, ProWrite, PageStream, Professional Page, WHDLoad (and games of course).

I also use WinUAE with Classic Amiga programs.  I recently converted all the newsletter issues I created with Pagestream and ProPage when I was Editor of the Blitter (the newsletter for the Philadelphia Amiga Users Group PAUG) to PDF format using WinUAE and PDF Creater as the default printer.  This was from end of 1988 to early 1990.

I was a lot more creative using the Amiga (writing music, publishing, etc...).  With the PC/Tablet nowadays, I mostly surf, listen to music and watch videos.

Classic 68k software under MorphOS:
DOpus Magellan 2 every day, PPaint, ArtEffect, fxPaint 2, FinalWriter, PageStream, Sanakirja (finnish <-> english dictionary), VirusZ, Netmount, DCTelnet...

And then some quite straight ports to MorphOS:
CEd, SongPlayer, SimpleMail, AmIRC...

On real Amiga mainly Magellan2 and WHDLoad.... sometimes Scala...

A1200 030 (my black beauty) for gaming, surfing and other things.

A500+ ACA500 for gaming (trying to connect on-line with serial/tcp)

Wordworth, FinalCalc, Drawstudio and all others dtp progs of their time work.
Also PPaint (disable blitter) and C4D and again many others.
Some have screen requester but others work with screen promotion progs.

Tested on Voodoo 3 and S3.

TVPaint is awesome and NewTek released a free version. You can do a lot with TVPaint and ImageFX 4 as far as image manipulation on a gfx card. They both work in 32 bit on my P96 Mediator Voodoo 4. All Photogenics versions are fun for playing around with but have bugs or are too slow for me to use for serious work. I also use PPaint for 256 color and less web images (gif and png).

The most advanced word processors are WordWorth 7 and FinalWriter. Pagestream is DTP but more advanced if you have the CPU speed and more time to learn the interface. TurboCalc is the most advanced spread sheet although Ignition may be usable enough by now. ProCalc and FinalCalc are also usable but dated. The best database depends as there are different types. SBase 4 is probably the most powerful but heavy weight. Twist and Microfiche Filer Plus have innovative concepts but are still general purpose and easy to use. I'm sure other people have their favorites. I believe everything mentioned above will work on at least Workbench with a gfx board.

Huh, that's a wide question It would be easier to tell what doesn't work on gfx cards

But I'll try what I remember I've tried.

Paint programs working on gfx cards:
fxPaint, PPaint, ArtEffect, ImageFX, Photogenics, Elastic Dreams, Fantastic Dreams, TVPaint, XiPaint, many shareware paint programs, many old programs that work on Workebench screen... and some vector "paint" programs like ArtExpression and DrawStudio.... and dozen of rendering programs...

From office programs:
AmigaWriter, FinalWriter, Wordworth, PageStream, TurboCalc... and many others. These kinds of programs are usually system friendly unless it's reaaaaally old.

Aladdin 4D works fine on gfx cards.
