SEAGATE ST410800WD

Hi All,
          I have acquired two like new 9 GB Seagate drives of the above model number.  They are set up to use an external code switch to set the device number.  I have looked on the net for information regarding this drive but there is nothing telling me about this part of the drive.  I would like information regarding the connector going to the code switch so I can find which pins on the connector to jump to set a device number.  Any and all help would be appreciated.

Try plugging in the model number here.  Both of the PDF documents include full diagrams on how to set the SCSI ID jumpers.  The spec page in text does have a simple diagram, but unless you're using a monospaced font w/linedraw characters in your browser, you should refer to the linedraw version.

I bought a similar drive on eBay.  There are adapters out there (even on eBay) that can convert this to a regular SCSI device for your system.. including power and SCSI IDs thru 15.

Be careful with that HVD shiznat.  It can break stuff if you don't have the right SCSI controller and terminator.

/me has a dual-channel Adaptec AHA-3944UWD and a quad-channel Adaptec AHA-4944WD

Plus a bunch of full-height HVD drives though not that model.  I have two drives of that model but as single-ended versions.

Also, as mentioned, that's the same drive as an ST410800W but just using a different signal for the interface.  The jumpers are identical--probably identical (sans some extra ID jumpers) to the ST410800N which is what I actually have.

That's where I got these two drives.  I have the 68/50 pin adapters but I was really wondering about addressing the drived since they originally seemed to use some kind of external selector device like a thumbwheel.   I printed out some specs from Seagate that show mw what pins on the the J4 commector do the addressing.  I think I can use jumpers to short out the appropriatepins to get the address I want.

BTW, check your email, I still need that full address so I can send you payment for that rom.

OK...  You lost me on the HVD shiznat deal... whatever that is...  Yea, the thing is heavy enough to break my toe if I drop it.

Looks like I need a book on SCSI because you got me totally lost.  I just wanted to put thes two babys in a tower with my Plextor CDROMS and one HP writable CDROM.  I paid $2.50 @ for them.  If they won't work they will make dandy bookends.

What I'm saying is that you gotta dumb it down for me.  I just want to know enough to use the damn things.  Can we find some middle ground here?  I was hoping for some expert to tell me what to do and I'll do it. (Within reason that is...)
