WHDLoad hangs before actual game starts??
« on: May 06, 2014, 03:19:37 PM »
So WHDLoad hangs on my amiga (NTSC ECS A2000 KS2 68000 2MB Fast) but works fine on an emulated amiga with the exact same specs...The games launch and the intros play but right before the actual game starts, it freezes at a black screen...tried with at least 2 different games. The only way my real amiga differs from the emulated one is the real one has an octagon 2008 scsi controller (running oktapussy), and an indivision ECS. Both WHDLoads (virtual and real) are currently unregistered if that makes any difference...

Do you have a tcpip stack running? If so shut it down before running whdload.

Although I didn't see this listed in your system, I thought it was important to note...

If you have a GVP Spectrum card you will have to remove the monitor before running WHDLoad games.

Can be a few things as I've found out from past experience. Going by your setup it's probably not hardware.

So software, you can run snoop dos and have it write to a log file when you run whdload. You can also run whdload in debug mode by changing it in whdload.prefs

The other thing to do is to post your user-startup and startup-sequence.

Also what's running from wbstartup?

Nothing in WBStartup, and an umodified startup-sequence. SnoopDos log indicates freezing right before loading the 1.3 kickstart images. I think my machine is running out of memory (perhaps due to the oktapussy driver??), since the same kickstart images work fine on inside my emulator...I actually have some more ram I never bothered to put in so I might give that a go.

Oh and since I can't seem to edit my last post as it won't stay logged in (grr), I also should say that I've tried with and without preload...both times the machine freezes right when trying to load the kickstart images (which I recopied just to be sure)...

You need to try some more games first. Two games just isn't enough to figure out what's going on. Try Bubble Bobble or Captain Planet for instance.
