Huge A1200 without HD. What's next?
« on: April 21, 2014, 03:05:53 PM »
Hello!

I have received recently this beast Amiga 1200:

Enclosed on a ELBOX tower, with a noised AT 200W Power Supply (fan issue).Kickstart 3.1.

Mediator Z4 V1.1 with SB128 PCI and a cheap Ethernet PCI 10/100 card. In the pack there is(but not connected now) Voodoo 3 3000 PCI card.

Blizzard 1260/50 Mhz with 64 Mb/Fast mem.

The Mediator also has the FASTATA Z-IV expansion, and another Z4 card that i can't see without unassembly it. I think it's a part of the Mediator itself, there are 2 "IDE like" cables from the Mediator to this card.

Well, I need to partition and format the HD, and feed it with some soft.

Where to begin? I know that first is partitioning and installing WB, but it can be done at the classic way? What steps must i do? Maybe i looks like a noob, but i haven't got never a mediator, or FastATA cards.

Thanks for the help!

Regards!

I basically ended up connecting the hard drive to my PC with a USB to IDE device, setting it up as a device within WinUAE, and installing off of that.  Much easier and faster to do.

After getting everything setup (you'll want to configure WinUAE to as close as possible as your real hardware), just plop it back inside the Amiga and it should work.

Something like this;

I mostly did it this way because of OS3.9, and not having an emergency boot disk until I created it.  If you have your workbench disks, you should be able to at least get that on there.
