Best video connection for A600 and a 1084
« on: April 01, 2014, 05:26:56 PM »
What is the best way to connect an A600 to a 1084 monitor? I guess on the Amiga side it is the video connector but on the 1084? Mine has a CVBS/LCA combo, a TTL RGB and a Lin RGB input.

Thank you!

There are many different models of 1084 monitor.  Some have a DB9 input, some have a round DIN.  Your best connection is going to be from the Amiga 23-pin output to the correct input on the 1084 (i.e., don't use the composite ports or anything like that).  If you post a pic of the back of the 1084 someone should be able to send you a link to the correct cable to buy.  Good luck!  :)

you need this:
Amiga -> 1084 (analog) RGB cable
Though digital RGB sounds better; it actually is not as it has a very small colour palette.
Not sure whether you need the round plug or the 9pin d-plug

I have a 1084S, so I was able to build a S-Video adaptor for it and use Amiga Maniac's video output adapter with mine. Other than that, I'd highly suggest getting a 23 pin Amiga cable to what ever your 1084 uses. I think that's the best solution next to going VGA with a flicker fixer.

Umm not sure what you are saying here. The BEST hands down display for a classic amiga is a 1084 monitor with RGB. This is what all the games and demos were designed for. It has rich color depth and scanlines. I'm lucky i have a Sony 20" broadcast video monitor that does both PAL and NTSC and is RGB ( I have a modded cable for amiga)

I think you misunderstood. On 1084s that have both digital RGB and analog RGB ports - the 2 big round ports next to each other, as pictured above - analog RGB is the correct port. I think the digital RGB port was meant for CGA video from Commodore PCs.

Oh, that's an easy one.  You would go from the Amiga RGB output to the 1084's Lin RGB input (which accepts analog RGB).  The 1084's TTL RGB is for the digital RGB coming out of the Commodore 128.

Thanks for the help guys. I've ordered the Amiga RGB 23-pin to DIN 6-pin cable.

Can I expect a big difference over composite?
