I just want to take a moment to congratulate all the amiga users, especially those who contributed to the bounty.

The users have managed to do TWO things hyperion has not been able to manage since 2006.

1) Porting a modern browser to amiga os 4.x

2) Paying the developers!

Maybe this new trend should continue?

And thanks especially to core MorphOS developer Fabien Coeurjoly for making the source code available.

One crack in the "blue vs red" wall.
Made from our side, not Hyperion's.

I don't understand all this criticism of Hyperion when it comes to this sort of thing.
It's quite apparent - to me at least - that OS 4 is much more than just "HyperionOS" - it's more a labour of love of AmigaKit and A-Eon, or at least that's how it seems to me.

Please: forget the "sides". AmigaOS 4 has a many more people working on it these days than just Hyperion.

they cannot resist these small taunts :)

If Hyperion would for example open sources in one case or another the critisicm would become less for sure. Perhaps the responsible persons read this and think about it.

I can. Whenever you ask for something about the software side of X1000, you are told its Hyperion jobs to do. Then you ask Steven and you get not a real answer but we might look to it, no realistic plans. If you take a closer look, most of AmigaOS advancements these days are done by community bounties / individual efforts like Kas1e port in this case.

It kind of look likes Hyperion is dead. OS 4.2 is more a mythical object, hope they will prove me wrong, but its 4th year since they had Nemo board and not even full board drivers (net card, SD card) are done. From Hyperipons stance I believe drivers should be done by board manufacturer - at least they claim it in SAM460ex SATA DMA case, and when you ask Trevor he sais Hyperion should do it and more important THAT HE CANT INFLUENCE THEM!

Who did 7.1 sound driver? Lyle.

So its "no one is responsible" sad sad game, where only efforts of good and skilled people, save the day1.

In the end AmigaOS 4 should really go free and open source or to some more skilled owner.

Holiday in Cambodia?  What wandering around Ankor Wat and dealing with squat toilets?  Not getting run over by a moped?  Trying to rescue your camera from monkeys?  Or are we referring to the sex tourism?

I know a lot of people are in love with Cambodia as a tourist destination but both Vietnam and Thailand have beaches....

Don't think too hard, you'll hurt yourself.

Sure, we hate those guys so much that we paid to give them our Browser.
What I hate is the commandeering of the Amiga legacy by someone that got it from Bill McEwen.
Since Bill's claim to those rights is pretty threadbare.
And that's MorphOS, as MOS is taken.
You know, the OS that existed before AOS4 was started.

http://euaejit.blogspot.no/

who do you think is responsible for this open source project, and what team does he work for?

The only difference is Fab requered payment to release the source code, Almos Rajnai is doing basically for free (Donation is optional..)

And lest not forget RoadShow.

There are no difference, between Hyperion developers or MoprhOS developers, developers are just as different as normal people, you can't generalize like this.

Very good point.
My apologies for bringing Hyperion into this discussion.
And congratulations to all the hard working OS4 developers that made MUI4 and this port possible AND to those who donated.

There IS one big difference between our developers though, we get what we are promised, usually pretty promptly.
Still, that isn't to say that the wishlist for OS4.2 won't be fulfilled.
Just that it might take a really long time to get there.

I hope OS4 is around for a long time. The competition will just improve all NG OS'.

Don't underestimate just how big the changes are that are specced for OS 4.2... I'd rather wait longer until it's ready than have a release that's a step backwards. It's not as though we're not getting regular updates through AmiUpdate in the meantime.

You're quite right about OS4 and MOS and AROS helping each other (just look at the JIT UAE, Odyssey etc.) - I think the competition and the co-operation will improve them all. Losing any one of the OSes would be a loss for all the OSes.

Totally agree.
If just part of the spec list for 4.2 makes it out, it will drive the other two OS' onto further development.
Could be good times ahead, especially if cooperation increases.
