A3000 SCSI CDROM
« on: February 13, 2004, 01:02:36 AM »
Are A3000's (or perhaps more specifically the OS) picky about brands of external SCSI CDROM drives?

Thanks.

I don't think so.  I have used Apple and Toshiba drives with no problems.  I have used AmiCDFS and the OS3.1 and OS3.9 CD FileSystems.

If you are having problems chip the cables and termination (Terminate only at the ends).  Some A3000s have a bug that keeps them from providing terminator power, so you may want to jumper a device or two to supply it if possible.

You may need to upgrade your SCSI chip if it is a real old one.  Unfortunatly I forget how to tell which chip you have.

Not in my experience.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Actually I'm looking at buying an external from Ebay so thanks for all the feedback.  :-)  That's all I needed to know.

I've noticed quite a few 'UNIX throwouts' going cheap in that department actually, you could probably get yourself a nice SGI external box...
I like Amigas
