Guru Error? Any Ideas?
« on: February 07, 2014, 09:32:27 PM »
Error:80000004 Task:00293dc8 seems it only happens if I boot from 3.9 Emergence disk or open AmiDock.  a2000 rev4.3 1mb chip fast 4mb on controller 4 on a2630.  looks like power led flashes 6 time before throwing Guru.  Ran Advance Amiga Analyzer and test ram came out clear replaced the 68000 and Agnus also tried without the a2630 same issue also tried putting the hd contoller in another slot.

Thank you in advance for any help with this issue.

Not much info to go on there. That guru number is a generic illegal instruction error. The task address is different every time you boot up. You have to figure out what task is at that address before you reboot or turn your machine off. You may be able to see this info in something like Scout but often the OS is too far damaged. You may be able to get a little more information with SmartCrash and SegTracker installed:

http://aminet.net/dev/debug/SmartCrash.lha
http://aminet.net/dev/debug/SegTracker.lha

You have to read the docs and it's a bit technical but when set up correctly it works most of the time.

I notice some more things while playing around if I do a clean install of 3.9 with out cdrom drivers I can boot fine with amidock running but if I go into ScreenMode locks ups if I close out of amidock ScreenMode and cdrom drivers works fine. I'm baffled

You'll get this error if you f.ex. try to run code for a 68020 on a 68000.

The A2630 can supposedly be set to fall back to using the internal 68000 instead of its 68030, and I think 3.9 requires 68020, so it's one possible explanation.

If the 68030 is in use, then perhaps you've accidentally installed drivers or software that requires 68040 or 68060. In the worst case, the disc and software have simply been damaged.

The 68040/68060 didn't introduce any new integer instructions except MOVE16 which I have never seen a compiler generate.  There are new FPU instructions like the FSxxx and FDxxx but I believe they would give a different guru number. Sometimes users with a 68020/68030 and no FPU will accidentally install FPU versions of software but I didn't think was the case here.

It could be some kind of problem with the reading or formatting of the HD. SFS can cause problems, a mildly corrupted file system or HD, weird HDToolbox settings, partitions >4GB, etc. It could just be a bug triggered by certain settings or hardware. The Cache CD-ROM system is less than robust. Some MUI classes and datatypes are buggy as well. It would probably be good to disable programs started at boot and see if the problem goes away. It would be nice to know the name of the offending program but the SegTracker+SmartCrash software is technical and may not work if it crashes hard.
