Usually on DB25 ASYNC serial ports you would do like this:

pin 2 to pin 3
pin 3 to pin 2
pin 7 to pin 7

That's all
A500 KS 2.1, 1MB Chip, 68000
A600 KS 3.1, 2MB Chip, ACA630 32MB RAM
A1000 KS 1.3, 8MB RAM
A1200 KS 3.1, Blizzard IV 50MHz 64MB RAM
A2000 KS 2.1, 68030 25MHz, 6MB RAM
A3000 KS 3.1, 68030 25MHz, 16MB RAM
A4000 KS 3.0, 68040 25MHz, 16MB RAM
CDTV KS 3.1, 4MB RAM
CD32
(AROS BOX) Dead :(

You need a serial-serial cable. They are quite simple to make, or you can buy one.

Schematic here: http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/13-105

I made one which just crossed over two pins but can't find the schematic for it. (or see Amiman99's reply that just beat me to it).

Next, you need a game which allows play over a serial link. The first one I played was Lotus 2, but there are a number around - I'm sure someone with more knowledge can help here.

Or, try this link: http://www.amiga-online-games.de/gamelist.php?menue=SNetworktyp&Suchanfrage=%ullmod%&Attribut=netzart

Have fun.

That plus get some games that support serial link play. There used to be a list of those around here somewhere...

Edit: AndyFC beat me to it.  ;)

I have the cable and both amiga's hooked up but what I want to know is, is there anything else I need to do? All I want to do is play games via serial link?

Hi mate, I made my serial link cables years ago and used telephone wire and two serial connectors.
The cable was over twenty foot long and worked fine with no problems and took me thirty minutes to solder it.

Games we played via the serial port were
01 Stunt Car Racer
02 Falco (flight simulator)
03 RVF Honda
O4 Lotus3

we had great fun playing these they were brilliant.

Cannot remember if XJ220 Jaguar was multi link as well.

All the best and have fun its great.

The requests for this list seem to come up fairly regularly.  I think i remember someone posting a comprehensive list (in the forums) of serial linked games in the past.  Does anyone have a link?

This is one of those things that would benefit from being cataloged in a more accessable place other than a forum.  ;)  Things get buried and forgotten over time.

EDIT:  OK, AndyFC's link is pretty good.  I should have read all the links first.  I still think I remember a different list, though.

Is there a way to share my internet connection from my towered amiga with my stock amiga?

Don't forget FIREPOWER for some multi- player, plan view tank action. Squashed soldiers look very similar to a more recent Puny Humans game I've seen. ;)

Many hours wasted many years ago.  Watch out for da choppers.

You probably could, BUT you could be limited to 19200bps or less over the serial link. You still may need some RAM, TCP stack, PPP etc, come to think of it, it may not be worth it.
For file transfer better option is to use PARNET over parallel port.

That's what I'm currently using, just thought it would be cool to have internet on my stock system.

With the right software there probably isn't anything you couldn't do.  Transfer files, share Internet connection, etc.  Difficulty will be getting the correct software, getting it all configured, etc.
