amiga native screen mode through tv card
« on: February 12, 2004, 12:30:47 AM »
Hi
I have a win tv card and i want to get my amiga games running through it as i heard it can be done...
I can get my ps2 through it fine but obviously when i start up dpaint 5 it just takes over my monitor screen and goes black.
I have both tv and super tv which i would prefer that if you know how to do it or tv is also fine...
thanks..
Gav

A pc tv card typically only supports regular NTSC signals.
Or, if it's a nice one, PAL and NTSC signals.
I imagine dpaint is using a different screenmode, or perhaps it is running in PAL when you have only an NTSC tv card.

You might want to start your Amiga in NTSC mode, (Hold down both mouse buttons when starting, and hit the space bar to tolgle between modes, and wait to see if a signal pops up on via the wintv card.) I'm not sure if this is applicable to all models, ie A500, A600 etc.. but I think so. Also, try using the composite video signal from the amiga instead of the rf modulated one, or vice versa..

Tv cards sold in Europe tend to be both PAL and NTSC comnpatible. Mine happily accepts either via RF, composite or SVHS.

@Gav
I plug the cable from my A1200's RF-out to the antenna-in on my TV-card (ATI All-in-wonder Pro). Start the TV-software and search for the channel (with the Amiga turned on, obviously) and store that channel (this ofcourse only has to be done once). Then I play games!! ;) Never had any probs.

By the sounds of it Gav, you wanna play games in using a TV card on the same machine. Do I read you right?

I think everyone here is suggesting connecting another Amiga through your TV card.

If you want to use WHDLoad to play games, unfortunately, WHD has to lock off the whole system (Temporarily 'killing' workbench. I've never heard of a way to get an Amiga to display 2 signals at a time (Workbench through a GFX card & ECS/AGA at the same time.

Hope I've got the right end of the stick.

FuZion.

It can be done.  Go to Devs:Monitors, and single-click your graphics card driver icon, then press Amiga+I to bring up the Icon information window. Change the "DISPLAYCHAIN" tooltype to no, and reboot. Now, when something uses the Amiga native modes, the Picasso96 output won't go blank. You'll now be able to see AGA modes in your TV card window.

You can even set up an ARexx script for each game to load SuperTV if its not already running, set it to full screen, run your game, then quit SuperTV when you quit the game!

Something like: (and i can't test this because i'm not at work)

if ~show( 'P', 'SUPERTV' ) then do
  address command "run <>NIL: dh1:SuperTV/SuperTV"
end

address supertv
tv_setchannel 6 /* or whatever channel */
tv_fullscreen on

address command "MyGame"

address supertv
tv_quit

Thats because when you run DPaint, the mouse pointer goes to the DPaint screen. If you had the AGA output going to the composite input on the TV card, and a TV window was open on workbench, you'd see DPaint in that window and be able to move the mouse around *INSIDE* the TV window. Press Amiga+M and the focus will come back to the workbench screen.

Obviously, you can't bring the focus back to the workbench screen if you are running games or demos that take over the operating system, which is why using ARexx to make SuperTV fullscreen is a good idea, since it appears like the game or demo is just running on your monitor directly, even though its not really.
